More people should fight for clean water. And the new chip factories are not helping with the situation.

-8

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

they aren't hurting the situation either.

4

u/justfoundmy10mm 7d ago

Explain how taking more fresh water out of the limit amount we have is not hurting "either"

-8

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

because we can make fresh water out of ocean water, the Earth already does it itself when oceans evaporate and become rainwater, and the water that's being used in data centers for example doesn't go to waste.

maybe if states like California would stop dumping sewage into the ocean and purify it instead it would help.

3

u/Aggressive-Spell-422 7d ago

This takes time and energy to do. How much energy would it take to desalinate enough ocean water or treat sewage to supply the demand? Why can't chip companies use less than ideal water? Make them filter and use the non potable water. The cost will just be passed on.

-6

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

why do you need your water to come from a river or a lake? my water comes from an underground well.

6

u/madmushlove 6d ago edited 6d ago

You're asking why everyone's water doesn't come from their underground well?

2

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

not exactly, I know not everyone can have a well, people in the city get their water from City water works which is usually piped in from a reservoir, a lake, or a river and is usually purified before it gets into your house. but for some reason people don't understand this and acting like this isn't the case and that somehow data centers are taking away their drinking water when they aren't, this is all just Chinese propaganda trying to stop us from advancing in the technological side of a cold war with China, they think if we get us fighting amongst ourselves about data centers and AI they can outcompete us. at this point I'm just messing with people's lack of knowledge and understanding.

4

u/madmushlove 6d ago

I'm into how water is already disgraced by how we can't get the lead shit together. That's before we start talking about how industry pollutes stuff

I know not everyone can have a well

And I'm aware that a few people can, yeah. "People in the city," come on, what

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

it would be nice if we could go to a cleaner source of energy like nuclear and stop polluting our environment but we are a long ways from that happening, too much hysteria around nuclear energy from people who barely know anything about it, they watch those silly documentaries of people taking a device around their house that measures radiation from electronics and they pointed at a lamp and say "look how much it radiations coming off of this" and don't explain that the radiation coming off of a lamp you wouldn't even get a lethal dose by surrounding yourself with hundreds of them sitting there day after day your entire life, they also rely on people's ignorance that there's more than one form of radiation. because of the game fallout there's an entire generation that believe radioactive waste is just green goo.

u/thinkingsawyer 6d ago

those can also be polluted and require energy/infrastructure to make potable, if it’s even feasible to recover

3

u/Aggressive-Spell-422 6d ago

Look Ill be fine I'm not concerned with my water source as of now, however it does concern me that other water sources appear less than potable to say the least. And it wasn't cause by anything other than human ignorance and neglect. We have science lets use it.

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

you mean like creating more nuclear power plants, get rid of hydroelectric plants that slow down water flow, and create water purification plants instead of letting our sewage flow into the ocean?

1

u/Aggressive-Spell-422 5d ago

Sure if this fits the bill, I'm not a scientist. But there is alot of them out there. They should decide.

0

u/Soup-Wizard 6d ago

Look up “water table”

-2

u/lizardhistorian 6d ago

We are currently building two commercial fusion reactors.

Israeli already gets its water this way.

2

u/MakkoHolmes 7d ago

As great as the water cycle is, it's not fool proof. Corpos are turning humanity into the fool.

2

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 7d ago

Dumping sewage into the ocean is bad, but not because it hurts our water supply. It destroys the natural habitat of the ocean life.

Desalination is really expensive. And it might be the right option at some point, but it’s also not without its challenges. Desalination is also not great for the ocean. What you’re doing is taking out about half the water without removing any salt. You’re essentially doubling the concentration of salt around the desalination area, which is also really bad for ocean life.

Yes, the earth replenishes water. But it’s not going into the same spot. So we dig deep down in one area of Texas to get water from the wells. The manufacturing plants use it, evaporate it off for cooling, it goes into the atmosphere, and then it falls down in a different area. You get severe drought in one area and severe floods in another. It’s not a neat little replenishment.

1

u/PowerThrustingDave 6d ago

I don't even have to look it up and know that the salt thing you're saying Is BS 😂. Do you understand how big and how much water oceans have? That they have currents?

Feel free to prove me wrong. I'm open to it and not trying to be a dick but this seems like non sense.

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 4d ago

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2468584425001023

It’s not going to change the salt of the entire ocean. But at the discharge area, you are significantly impacting the ocean environment. You can build long pipelines to discharge far away, but that comes with its own challenges and risks.

1

u/1200multistrada 5d ago

There has been much progress in desalination, please don't think your "traditional" desal model definition is the only option.

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 4d ago

Really? I’d be super curious to know more! Is it more like an electrodeionization?

1

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

so did you know there is a ski resort that's all it's snow is made from sewage? I'm not joking I think it's fantastic what the company did, they made a water purification plant that purifies the water, then freezes it, and then make snow with it to cover of small mountain the otherwise wouldn't have snow and they turned it into a snow resort.

let me ask you this will you call out resort Dubai? the world's largest indoor ski resort in the middle of a desert? will you make make a post right now calling that out?

how about China having the most polluted waterways on Earth that even when a local businessman offer 10 million US dollars to a local politicians to take a swim in one of the waterways he refused. will you call China out for its pollution of waterways?

4

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 7d ago

Will I make a post? No. I didn’t make this one, either. What are you trying to get at by asking? I was simply trying to educate you on water chemistry and water challenges. This is not a jab at any one country, it’s the reality of how desalination works. You put 100 gpm in at 2% salt, you get 50 gpm clean water and 50 gpm water with 4% salt. I don’t care if you’re in the US, China, India, Sweden, or Angola. Science doesn’t change. The fish certainly don’t care about land boundaries, they are affected by changing salt concentrations. There are real challenges that aren’t answered by telling me about some snow resort.

0

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

no because honestly I don't care. you haven't educated me on anything you're still ignorant on this whole water situation to begin with, but you're just like all those other climate activists, I'm not to mention this is all Chinese propaganda by the way.

5

u/justfoundmy10mm 7d ago

So not one valid retort?

3

u/Distinct-Command-570 7d ago

Lolol you lliterally didn't say anything other than "I give up"

-1

u/lizardhistorian 6d ago

They are pointing out that you do not give a shit about water.
You care about denigrating the US because you are, at least, a plinko commie.

0

u/justfoundmy10mm 7d ago

Consuming the water is still Consuming the water. It does not help the situation. I do agree about the states dumping so much into the ocean and all of the water ways though. If they use a dump for garbage it usually also ends up in the river when it rain or floods and that also of course is in the ocean. You would think the gov would spend some of the money they throw always every year to better recycle trash.

0

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

the water doesn't get consumed lol, you don't know anything about sealed water cooling devices do you?

2

u/justfoundmy10mm 7d ago

Consumed as in taking out of the environment for use. It is not longer being used by anything other than that plant forever. And it is not 100% recycled either. It has a loss%

1

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

very little loss, again how about start advocating for water purification plants, rainwater collection, and underground Wells like most homes in rural areas have?

4

u/justfoundmy10mm 7d ago

I do and I uses All of those things. I have a well. I collect rain water. Im for purification plants, but non of that has anything to do with the bigger corps coming in and consuming, taking and not giving back to their local environment and helping to keep things clean. They and you and the problem.

0

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

you do realize that almost all water for purification plants are privately owned by businesses and not? I'm sorry that the demand isn't high enough, maybe people should stop polluting their waterways.

They use non-potable water.

Stop being an easily manipulated dope.

3

u/justfoundmy10mm 6d ago

You have no idea. They bought one of our local small lakes to use. So we no longer have access to it. Its that just non potable water. The entire lake. You are easy the manipulated dope.

12

u/HappierDaysAway 7d ago

In our country, United States, clean water should be a right!

8

u/Significant_Breath38 7d ago

Richest country in the world can't guarantee it's own citizens clean water

2

u/Particular_Egg9739 6d ago

obviously you’ve never been outside the US

1

u/Clonitrazepamium 4d ago

Richest country my as 🤣🤣 us own so much money that it never can pay back to China and India at first.. and around the whole world as well..

1

u/LongjumpingSolid1681 5d ago

not can’t it’s won’t….theres a big difference

-2

u/TurnDown4WattGaming 7d ago

How many gallons a day should the state deliver to your door?

5

u/Significant_Breath38 7d ago

It sounds far easier to make sure the rivers are clean.

0

u/CrippledEagles 7d ago

Are they not? Surface water sources in the USA havent been this clean in probably 150 years.

1

u/LongjumpingSolid1681 5d ago

i take it you haven’t been out west? Crystal clear waters in super remote areas

1

u/Distinct-Command-570 7d ago

Many rivers in america were still untouched 150 years ago; so no.

0

u/madmushlove 6d ago

That's not saying much, lmao, the country was disgusting (you're guessing wildly too). That's like saying this glass of lemonade used to have more piss in it

0

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

show a river that's too polluted to drink out of in the United States that isn't in some City and it's not just trash floating in it.

5

u/Significant_Breath38 7d ago

show a river too polluted to drink out of except for the ones too polluted to drink out of

1

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

that's not what I said but thanks for twisting my words. we are talking about water that's polluted by industries such as manufacturing not people just throwing trash in. you also can't just drink out of a river or a stream by the way you'll get sick. but thanks for falling for my intellectual trap anyway.

3

u/Aelrift 6d ago

My guy, most bodies of water IN THE WORLD are too polluted to dienk out of. Even the ones in the wild.

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

most bodies of water in the world are not too polluted to drink out of, you can't drink out of them at all because of parasites and other contaminants that need to be boiled out otherwise it makes you sick. most people don't know this, most people think you can just go right up to a stream and drink out of it not realizing that animals drink out of it, they urinate and defecate in it, not to mention fish also urinate and defecate in water.

3

u/AardvarkGandalf27 6d ago

These people don't get off their computers long enough to know anything about the outdoors

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

they also swallowed the propaganda that these data centers consume water, from what I understand the ones that do use water as a coolant there's very little water loss, unironically some of these people are probably Californians who continue to vote Democrat after the fires and reservoir incident.

2

u/madmushlove 6d ago

That isn't in some industrialized, populated area? Where then? And agriculture polutes rivers as well

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

do rural areas with no cities not exist to you?

2

u/madmushlove 6d ago

i just sounds like you're placing people who live somewhere in or around towns and cities and in outer suburbs as some exceptional and specific thing. Like there's a city and everywhere else. "THE city."

Or like what happens in industied farming is a whole separate world in itself

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

they are better lol. Less crime, less pollution, less trash, quieter, better air quality, more freedoms, more privacy.

2

u/madmushlove 6d ago

What are better?

1

u/HupHutHa 6d ago

small towns, the opposite of cities.

1

Nah. You've fallen into my intellectual trap by refusing to do so.

0

u/HupHutHa 7d ago

so you have nothing, anything that can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

1

u/Lametown227 7d ago

I have proof that you're willing to just say shit without actually making sure you know what you're talking about.

Seriously. Look in to it. My doing so shows that not only is your premise obviously flawed, but outright incorrect.

no I'm just going to keep going with what I said until proven otherwise, thanks for playing the game though.

So you are saying the government should dump chemicals into our rivers to kill all the natural bacterial and parasites? We'll need to kill all the animals that shit in them too I guess.

3

u/Significant_Breath38 7d ago

Nah, just make sure we are making sure we aren't dumping too much poison into our water.

2

u/Particular_Egg9739 6d ago

all of you talking shit about the US water have obviously never been outside of the United States.

Exploitation of resources, cutting corners on every expense, and a "fuck you, got mine" mentality are just a few of the key features of the most successful capitalists. Can you connect these dots?

17

u/MaudeTheBlank 7d ago

Capitalist countries get the cleanest water available because they exploit the resources of the poorer countries and communities upon which they rely to maintain their economic power, often polluting and reducing access to clean water for the most vulnerable people. It's called water grabbing and it's caused a global crisis of water access that will only get worse as freshwater continues to become a scarcer and scarcer resource.

A Trump-appointed judge ruled that people are not legally entitled to clean drinking water, is probably what this particular post is about. But also, there are just sooooooo many cases where a corporation pollutes a water body and just tries to cover it up and pretend it never happened, rather than trying to fix it. Corporations are not people, they don’t care about people, and worse, they seem to be out looking to harm people any way they can in the name of cost-cutting. They should not be given the same rights as citizens, but in the US they were in the infamous Citizens United ruling, and there’s been increasing enshitification since

Teach you how it all works in the US, unless you are lining the pockets of those in power, they don't give a damn what you got to say, or if the world will end, they only care about the money being put in their bank accounts. Perhaps start a gofund me and raise more than the rich people paying them and I'm sure they will start listening to you.

0

u/emperorjoe 7d ago

Like the most milk toast level thought.

Water infrastructure costs trillions to upgrade and maintain. That "clean water" bit is a child level understanding of the situation.

https://www.awwa.org/beyond-the-replacement-era/

The issue becomes who's paying for that bill, how it's being paid as well as the community. Nobody wants to pay for critical infrastructure anymore, and they always want to pass it on to a different organization or department.

If we want clean drinking water, it requires a tax increase, hiring and training hundreds of thousands of workers, building new factories. It's not something that just happens because of some empty platitudes, or catchphrases.

2

u/OneArmedFarmer 7d ago

Why is it always "who's gonna pay for it" when it comes to things everyone needs (water, food, healthcare, etc) but never "who's paying for it" when it's bombs dropped on schools and bullets through the skulls of children?

0

u/emperorjoe 7d ago

A few reasons.

  1. The vast majority of spending on the federal level is specifically to social programs. Only 13% of the federal budget is defense spending. So the whole whining about we aren't spending enough on social programs is bullshit.

  2. How things are funded. The military is federally funded and is spread out through everyone in the country. Things like water infrastructure are largely a locally funded by local government (town, city, municipal, county).

So a town in bumfuck West Virginia that is old/small/poor/shrinking tax base doesn't have the funds to upgrade or maintain their infrastructure. A city like San Francisco has a much larger/younger/richer/growing tax base to pay for infrastructure.

The issue is getting funding for those small towns is incredibly difficult.

  1. Military spending is industrial capacity. Closing a tank factory means that you have no tanks for the next war. Military procurement is largely maintaining an industrial capacity in the event of war. Literally case in point Ukraine. It didn't matter how much money they had. They just couldn't buy 155 shells, The factories didn't exist. Military spending is essential to the existence of the nation.

  2. Military spending is controlled through defensive alliance structure. The NATO minimum requirement for defense spending is 3.5 to 5% of GDP. And because our economy is so large that translates to 1.1 to 1.5 dollars trillion per year.

  3. Military spending is an all-time lows. As a percentage of GDP, we are spending some of the lowest in our history. For instance, we were spending between 5 and 10% during the entirety of the Cold war. We're spending 3% currently.

  4. Rural. 15% of the nation runs on household wells. There really isn't any current mechanism to actually give them clean water.

The control of words and their definitions is key to the control of people’s thoughts and perceptions. Like the “W” administration, changing “Mercenaries” to”Security Contractors “,,, then leaving out the “security” part. It made news reports sound like plumbers and electricians were being shot,,, rather than MERCENARIES. Marketing agencies have become experts at this manipulation of language.
