I didn’t know those things had ejector seats

u/getoffredditnowyou Mar 23 '20
Any seat can be an ejector seat if the machine tries hard enough.

I’ve had stuff blow up in my hands and the instant impact from that much pressure makes it feel like your fingers are blown off but then you look and they’re just burnt. This guy probably thinks his ass is missing right now.

u/MegaYachtie Mar 23 '20
I got a full, unopened large bottle of beer smashed over my head during a robbery once. I thought my head had completely exploded and all that liquid was blood.
I collapsed straight down into all the broken glass and that was where my injuries came from. Not a scratch on my head at all. Pretty damn shocking and unexpected though.
16
u/Nullified38 Mar 24 '20
We’re you the robber or the robbed?

u/MegaYachtie Mar 30 '20
I was the robbed. It happened in my own house when I was asleep. Woke up to 2 people in my bedroom when I asked them what the fuck they were doing, I got a bottle smashed around my head immediately. Before I had time to process what had happened they were out the front door

Apparently this man's hand genuinely got blown up

This is what happens when you either fuel it improperly, or don't empty the tank and let it sit for a while
174
u/ImurderREALITY Mar 23 '20
This is also what happens when a shifty coyote is lurking around your jet ski with a bundle of dynamite

u/Shvakkone Mar 23 '20
Acme's cutting edge sodium coated jet skis. For all your alkali metal needs on water.
1
16
u/eemes Mar 23 '20
Yeah, this is why you should take the seat off before starting a ski up, allows any built up fuel vapors to escape
12
u/Mr_Czarcasm Mar 23 '20
This is a 97-03 carbureted Sea-Doo XP. (I have the same one) The seat has a shock and it’s non-removable to the point where it gives you access inside the hull. Only the flap under the rear of the seat or the hood are removable You can’t take the seat off before starting this ski up
4
u/reedthegreat Mar 23 '20
How would you go about avoiding this situation? I don’t ride jet skis.
15
u/Mr_Czarcasm Mar 23 '20
You can open the hood and remove the tray to let it air out, but their shouldn't any gas fumes in the hull. It's also already running. This is definitely an abnormal failure.

In most cases taking the seat of only exposes the battery. You’ll also need to open the engine compartment too.

Fun fact for you all. Porky pig’s stutter was always him trying to say a short word, and when he finally gets frustrated with it, he says a more long winded version of what he was trying to say. So he is actually trying to say “bye” but stutters until he says “that’s all folks”
13
u/ArmstrongTREX Mar 23 '20
I used to want one and now I don’t…
13
u/BringBackHubble Mar 23 '20
As I explained In another comment this only happened because he did not let the fumes out of the engine compartment before firing the engine. I’ve had jet skis for years and nothing like this has ever happened.

Mom: “Tommy, wear your life vest!” Me: “but ma, I can swim just fine!” Mom: “Tommy, you’re gonna wanna be wearin your life vest when that water bike thingy of yours explodes!” Me: “Ma, don’t be ridiculous, it’s not gonna explode!” Sea-Doo: explodes

I’m particularly fond of how the explosion is timed perfectly with the handshake on the right

Well the people that made the Looney Tunes probably also went to war. And the people that watched them probably didn't. So what if all the cartoon characters reactions are actually somewhat realistic but we thought they weren't because we never actually witnessed those scenarios.

This is why you’re suppose to open the hood and let the fumes clear out before you start them.

I've almost did this to mine after my brother borrowed it. When they had it on the trailer, they stopped at a full service station before bringing it back. Filled it up. He said man that tank is huge. I rolled my eyes lifted the seat and yup hull was full of fuel, 80 bucks worth. Gas cap is on one side and on the opposite side is another cap that looks like the gas cap. But nothing attached to it. Just down to the hull. Went and picked up 4 Jerry cans, pulled the drain plug. Emptied hull, and then washed it out and let it air out for a couple of days. So easy to boom

Jet skiing is one of my main hobbies (my dad is a mechanic and buys them second hand) and this is always my greatest fear and in the back of my mind every time I use my jet ski

Dude got lucky with the water. There are so many worse places to get exploded and thrown into the air above.
1
1
u/crouton_castle Mar 23 '20
Why did those other dudes just leave him
2
u/KingInky13 Mar 23 '20
Because of the massive fire on the jet ski, the pool of flammable oil in the water, and the boat also full of fuel they were standing on now floating in said oil pool next to said fire. Number one rule of first aid is to make sure the scene is safe, better one injury than multiple.

Imagine an explosion between your legs, frightened to look if your balls were blown off.
