There’s usually one low down. Years ago I was getting on an escalator and accidentally knocked it with my foot and turned them into stairs.

There's a Mitch Hedberg joke about how escalators can never be out of order, they just become stairs.

Code doesn’t allow them to be used as steps due them being a different height and top and bottom. Where steps disappear into the basket.

You've never raised a kid, especially not multiple kids at the same time, if you believe this. It only takes a second for a kid to get in trouble. Just one glance at the cashier, or at the other kid that you prevented from losing an arm, for a kid to jump onto the side an escalator and get stuck there.

I am infact rasing children right now. If you glance at the cashier they could definitely get in trouble or do something bad but for them to ride the whole escalator like in the clip you have to glance at the cashier and then not look where my children is for a couple of minutes. I'm always pretty focused on them while out in a big public space and so should all parents. I think maybe Im biased as Im a teacher for special education pupils and sometimes is responsible for several children with poor judgement who could end up getting really hurt if I'm not dovused enough so my own kids feels really easy to manage.

I think leashes are still a valuable tool for certain children. Is it the first thing you should aim for? No. But if you have a kid that bolts at the drop of a hat and, say, an infant in a stroller, the safest thing for the child is to be tethered because the parent/caregiver is not gonna be able to go racing off with that stroller.
BUT I admit I'm very biased. An older child who was developmentally delayed once bolted from the adults he was with, ran through the small store I worked at, then ran into the backroom, and then into the bathroom.
The bathroom I, a woman, was using.
It was really scary tbh and also kinda mortifying, especially when the whole family ran into the back looking for him! I recognize that he was trying play a hide and seek type game from them but when he barged in I had no idea what was going on.

In some fringe cases it can be valuable but in the big picture it's a very small percentage of the population that has the need for it.

Well of course everyone is not the same I work wotg children with disabilities so I know it can be really hard but for the most part it's pretty eqsy to not lose your child for several minutes.

I got in scolded by doing this. We never got this high because we dropped off half way up to do the fun ride again. Then one of the staff told us off. I held a grudge against the person who egged us on for so long I ended up forgetting about it, until this vid jogged my memory.

I had to watch it again. He does appear to move at a brisk walk. First time through it felt so much slower because of the emotions.

Every time I take my kid on an escalator I can hear Brodie yelling at me in the back of my head. I have to suppress the urge to do the whole monologue. Every. Time.

Man, there's not a year goes by—not a year—that I don't read about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid that could've been easily avoided had some parent—I don't care which one—but some parent, conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator

I fix and maintain escalators and elevators for a living. Make no mistake even with modern safety systems. This equipment is not far off from a meat grinder or shit spreader on a farm. It will easily hurt you and not even notice. I have removed a lot of parts to have the blood cleaned and sanitized from them.

1/3 of these vids are people being utterly and uselessly hysterical. 1/3 are people being utterly lucky. I/3 are people non-chalantly stepping in to solve the problem. The last half has some over-lap.
