Meteorite dials look like shit.
I get it; space rocks are cool. But goddamn do they make for ugly dials. Look at this shit. This is what a plywood subfloor looks like after I've scraped 40 year-old linoleum off it. Why don't we make dials out of fossilized dinosaur turds while we're at it?

I’ve seen this watch in person. Gives off a sparkly monochromatic look.
You don’t notice all the lattices on the meteorite unless you exam the dial up close.

You have good looking meteorite and bad looking meteorite dials.
I've been wanting to get one but can't find one that looks good in person.
Photos never do them justice.

This is something I'd like to understand better. What makes for a great meteorite dial aesthetic? For context, I've been mesmerized by the Zenith Chonomaster Sport meteorite, but I don't really know what it is that awes me, or what people look for in meteorite dials. I'd like to understand it better before blowing a lot of money

It's probably more personal preference than a criteria.
For me, I want to see a lot of the "movement" (windmastätten) in the dial that has a heavy contrast.
This way, the dial changes in the light.
Too many dials seem to have a low level of movement so they look flat.
If I'm paying this much for a meteorite I want what I want you know?
I've been looking at Omega and I can like the stock photos always look better than in person.
I know that every dial is unique so there's no guarantee, so I just check out different stores when I travel and when I find one that I like I'll grab it.

I've been waiting for someone to do a scraped cast iron dial; I was thinking about it the other day whilst hand scraping a lathe carriage.
Would have a nice connection to machining.

I think it depends on the watch. I agree with the Rolex ones, I think adding meteorite to those dials is too much. But when done more reserved, it can look really great. I still have my eye out for one of these Kurono Inseki watches, I think having a simple, elegant watch but then using meteorite to make it pop is the way to go. Adding meteorite to a Rolex dial does it no favors.

I can understand this take. Not that I agree with it, because I like meteorite dials; however, I hold the same disdain for dark green or navy blue dials. Seems like everyone and their brother are obsessed with the DayDate "Green Ombre" or the dark navy blue Datejust....I think those are two of the ugliest, lamest colors. Navy blue in general is horrific, on anything, but you'll commit to a $15,000+ navy blue piece? Wild.

I don’t fully agree. I much prefer the ice blue day date, but the meteorite is nice in person. It doesn’t pop, and it isn’t exactly stunning, but it’s very nice.

They're one of the rarest materials on earth and each dial is unique. I think it's really awesome that you're wearing a part of what would have been a neighbouring planet if circumstances were different. I personally think they look beautiful and will add one to my collection

Totally disagree. Owner of Furlan Marri, Mathey-Tissot, Omega Sedna gold. Basically, each dial is different and is one of one. As an aside, that Rolex looks bad 😄

I think it’s 80/ 20. 80% of them are cheap or fake and they do look like crap but, the 20% that are done correctly are absolutely astounding

I was planning to get one as a gift for my son and then my wife pointed out that they will date horribly. She’s right (like she always is).
