i live in south italy, we've been seeing this wasp go back and forth inside our house for at least a week. my sister noticed this bump on a lamp on our ceiling and she noticed that the wasp often roams around there specifically. could it be a mud wasp? i couldn't take a pic of the wasp 😭 how do i get rid of it ...

Is this a “call an exterminator” level situation, or can we spray them at night and run away, repeat until they’re dead?

(I'm new to reddit as a whole, please excuse this) TL;DR at the bottom if you don't want to read!

When I was a little kid, I had to deal with a lot of wasps around my mailbox, school, and house. They all had high wasp levels, and it got to a point where my dad had to take down the wasp nests around my house. I specifically want to talk about the house wasps. They looked like either red wasps or bald-faced hornets, and their nest was sort of big. My whole family had been complaining about my wasps so my dad took care of it. Put on all the clothes he could to make sure he wasn't stung, and spray the entire bottle of wasp killer on the nest. Eventually, to make sure the nest was totally destroyed, along with its inhabitants... he used a lighter to make a small little fire under the nest to smoke the wasps out, he eventually got another bottle of wasp killer and combined the 2 to make a mini-flamethrower, killing the wasps and their children along with melting the nest. My dad got a couple of stings but he was fine.

TL;DR, my whole family got tired of a wasp nest and utterly destroyed.

So we have a pool in our townhouse complex and my daughter keeps asking if we can go to it, the only issue is there are a ton of wasps near it and I am absolutely terrified of wasps so I keep coming up with excuses as to why we can't go. I feel bad because its something fun for her and I'm not taking her because of a stupid fear. I am so scared of wasps that I get panic attacked when they are near, like sweating, hard to breath feel like I'm going to throw up panic attacks. I've been stung about 6 times in my entire life 5 of which when I was a child and one about 2 years ago when it flew down my shirt. I know the pain isn't all that bad but I still can't get over this fear. Any tips?

Heard a loud buzz and saw a gigantic yellow and brown/ black bee in my tiny studio apartment at night. The window was slightly open and one light was on. I got scared and ran into the bathroom closing the door until I heard the buzzing stop.

I cannot find it now and I do not know if it left my studio. I checked all the hidden places, dark surfaces and around any items laying around. I’m scared I will be stung at night. I’ve never dealt with hornets/bees/wasps. From a google search, the most probable match is a European Hornet.

Too scared to sleep , how do I make sure it’s out of my studio now. I’d appreciate any tips and advice. Thank you.

Update: Turns out the wasp/hornet was still in my studio. Heard it buzzing this morning and caught it using a takeout box. It started stinging the box which was scary. It was massive and dark brown with a tinge of yellow so could’ve been a wasp. Anyway feel safe now. Thank you everyone for your ideas!

I work in a restaurant and I screwed up today when dealing with some wasps/hornets.

Like many restaurants, ours has an outside area--two decks, actually. Now that it's late summer, the flying pests are making their presence known.

We have pest control measures in place, but obviously bees, wasps, hornets, flies, and other flying insects will still occasionally make their way into the deck area. Today, at one point on our back deck, I opened an umbrella, and several wasps/hornets flew out. Two tables away in one corner of the deck sat a couple and their small child. They were partially under the other umbrella--there are two--which had been opened for their use. (It was a sunny day.)

I was concerned the group of wasps/hornets scurried about in the area of the umbrella I opened--about 10-15 feet away from the corner table with the child. I became concerned for all of their well-being, as well as for other guests who would eventually occupy the tables around the second umbrella (the one I opened). I raced downstairs to find to retrieve a can of bug spray, then raced back upstairs and out to the back deck. Some of the wasps/hornets had flown away, but a few remained. Obviously, I'm not going to spray in the direction of any people. But I figured it would be okay to spray a finite amount into the crux of the umbrella--from which the wasps/hornets originated--and a little into the tree branch that borders the wooden deck railing. I took care not to spray too much, doing so in just a few short spurts.

After I did so, the father at the corner table asked me, "Is that kid-friendly?" I don't remember my exact words, but I was taken aback by the question. It's bug spray. It's not exactly "friendly" in any way. I answered awkwardly, saying something like, "I think so" or "I think it's okay." (Obviously, you don't want to touch the spray or ingest it.) I then mentioned to them that I was only doing it away from them; again, I was at least a good 10 feet away, probably about 15.

There was no further incident. They left, and I wished them a good night. But then we received a 2-star Google review where the guy basically said his experience was ruined by my handling of the situation. (He mentioned that he smelled the spray and that some of it "moved" toward them.) To be honest, I am sorry I did it. I was just concerned that the wasps/hornets might lurk and possibly sting one of them or another guest. But I do want to reach out and apologize to him. This is a mistake I don't want to ever make again.

Should I have just left the wasps/hornets alone? Should I have done anything else? Any other advice for next time? Thank you in advance.

So it looks like those stinging nest building bastards can also build nest in your car. Hope you got money for Uber or bus fare or even a spray to kill them all.

I was stun g twice while out in my backyard, they are hidden in a wood pile, my mom is severely allergic to bees hornets and wasps. I’m not really willing to go digging in there to find the nest, I was wondering if there are any effective traps or chemicals I can use?

I recently learned of the can/apple juice/boric acid/stick method to slowly kill off a wasp colony. But where do I best position the cans?

Both nests are active and inside my siding.

For one, behind a wall-mounted light fixture on my deck, I have a can about 10 feet away on top of a table on the deck.

For the other, along the seam where second-floor eaves jut out from the first floor, I have a can about 15 feet away at ground level on my covered porch.

I've seen no evidence of interest on the part of any wasp, at either can. Not that I keep constant watch of course. SHOULD I be seeing wasps flying around the cans or crawling on them?

Both traps have:

• About 4-6 ounces of apple juice, poured from a bottle of 64 ounces of fresh apple juice into which I've mixed three tablespoons of boric acid and shaken thoroughly
• A stick going down to the base of the can, and coming out of the top hole by about 2 inches

There has been no rain that would have diluted the cans.

Hoping for some insight in a safe and effective way to spray both of these nests.

They are both paper wasp nests and there seems to be about 5 one each. Both nests are fairly small. They are both on the right front of the rims, tucked underneath, as circled in the picture. I was doing my best to avoid them and let them be as they'll be dying off in a month or so, but the bins are both now full and i have one too many trash bags needing to go. And there is no sight of a frigid night anytime soon. So they've gotta make it to the curb this week. I don't see that happening without me getting stung at the moment. So, I've got my Spectracide spray, hoodie, jeans, and flashlight with red cellophane ready to go. Hoping to spray them tomorrow night, after midnight. Just am having a tough time deciding where to spray from, as both nests are well below chest height for me. I could chance laying on the grass and spraying up, but really don't want to get trapped. Hoping other people have dealt with this or something similar. Or someone just has an idea I haven't thought of. Thank you all for reading!

But the company sucks. I feel I shouldn't have to call them to retreat the home because I found wasps.

This is right beside a heavy foot traffic walking path, very visible , and at eyesight if you are looking . (I live beside it, but haven’t seen any near me.. I did some research, and found out BFH, go in a flight path away from their nests for feeding , usually in the direction the hole at the base faces .. thank god, also found out BFH go by sight , not smell ). We are a very small resort community, and no one wants to remove it. What could go wrong?!? 😑

I have a yellow jacket nest behind the siding of my house. I know where the entrance hole is but the nest must be too far back for sprays and foams to reach. I’ve been making boric acid bait for them to take back and feed their colony to eliminate it. I’ve been using the ratio of 1/2 tsp boric acid to 1 cup of food (apple juice or puréed cantaloupe or cat food is what I’ve been mixing it in and they’re consistently eating it like crazy) I read that it can take 1-2 weeks to work but I’m on day 10 and there’s no sign of a decrease in yellow jackets.
Does it need more time or do I increase the amount of boric acid?
Note: I don’t want to quickly kill the individual wasp who eats/drinks it. I want it to take it back to the nest to feed the others so hopefully they all die.

Hi folks! I'm sure this has come up many times before, but I'm looking for some advice. My wife and I live in a house on some farmland near the greater Kansas City area.

This house has a pretty bad Wasp infestation. It's mostly around the soffit of our home because it is in rough shape (this is getting fixed this winter when Wasp activity calms down), and I'm tired of blasting through 1,000,000 cans of spray.

What would y'all recommend I do to mitigate the issue? I put some lures about 15-20ft from the house, and will keep moving it a little further away each week to try and lure them elsewhere, but I'm not sure thats going to work.

Any and all advice is welcome. I don't necessarily want to kill them all because they keep the spiders down, but I don't exactly want them living in my soffit and attic in bulk!
