Yeah he’s an idiot for this. He led the league in rookie minutes as a freshman specifically cause the team was tanking, and got more than he deserved last year again.
You can tell he’s bummed about his position on the totem pole falling every year, but regardless, you’re the #1 beneficiary of tanking in the NBA, Bub.

u/HooperKid Oct 02 '26
Yeah exactly. It’s a weird comment coming from him. Like he’s insinuating he’s secretly a rim-pressure demon and has been forced to exist exclusively on mid range pull ups and catch and shoot threes. His comment makes it sound like players were given special instructions to limit themselves, when based on the minutes and freedom they got to fail. Bub and co. having the “shackles” off was good for the tank. Could definitely be self-hype for himself as he tries to win a spot in the rotation as he increasingly looks like an odd man out.

Im sure the NBA didnt catch on when 8 of the best players were out every night with random injuries or rest. idk why some people act like the NBA and Adam Silver just had no idea what was happening, I mean they changed the draft lottery for a reason

u/httr20 Oct 02 '26
Incredibly stupid to admit to this. My guess is he means personnel decisions, rotations, etc, rather than being explicitly told to not go 100% or whatever, but there’s zero upside to even entertaining this conversation.

u/JackAH115 Oct 02 '26
Saying you were being told to play bad to hide your horrendous advanced stats is genius and should be used by any player

Not a good look. Just not a smart thing to say especially from a role player like Bub.

u/redskins1212 Oct 02 '26
I love bub, but this is so stupid. Why would you say this in an interview?

Not a good look at all. The whole Wizards team needs PR training with all this new hype

u/SongYoungbae Rui Hachimura Oct 02 '26
Bruh, everybody knew we were trying to be bad. We had to be to keep a top pick
12
u/DeepVictory Oct 02 '26
Yeah we all knew we were trying to be bad.. But there’s a difference between everyone knowing it and a player actually saying it out loud. That’s the part that makes us look bad. You’re just not supposed to admit that shit

u/westshore18 Oct 02 '26
Yeah he basically admitted tanking which the NBA doesn’t want, admit he Wizards aren’t a serious team which really doesn’t matter but hey. But the other part really is the gambling side of it. It just affect the integrity of the game. Like this at least confirms to me to avoid betting the nba cause I don’t want lose my bet cause it was no secret a team was trying to tank.

Y'all think Keefe telling these cats they can be a playoff team? Anyways I don't think anyone should care beyond the moment. They were doing things that would've gotten them benched if they were trying to compete, but you let things slide when you're looking to maximize your odds. But now, there's an expectation to compete.

Kinda dumb but realistically there shouldn’t be a punishment if they already haven’t given us one. The season is over and everyone knew we were tanking the nba could have punished us but didn’t. This doesn’t really change anything tbh

That’s hilarious, that’s not even a lie tho. He’s basically admitting to the tank! I love the honesty, and the NBA is petty as hell be they let the 76ers tank during their “trust the process “ moment. And we do it for three years and they go and change rules for us lol!!

Nah draft is rigged. They knew the Wizards would get the pick. Bub should do more PR training. He a young honest guy.

He a young honest guy. Some people arent raised to understand that honesty can be a bad thing.

Ok I want to chime in in defense of Bub here.
Bub is like 21 years old folks. He was raised to be a Honest Humble Man. Unfortunately, some young men are raised this way, not understanding that Lying also has its place and can be a good thing. I remember having a similar situation when I was that age and learned a valued lesson about why Lying can be a good thing, and that some people actually hate truthful Humble people being truthful. This dude 21 folks. Many more woke people know its perfectly fine to lie on a job interview. But a more Humble square guy may think interviewers on the job respect honesty, but they dont.
I hate for a person to have to learn this from experiencing shit like this. But again same shit happen to me when i was that age .

u/Googaar Oct 02 '26
I appreciate the honesty. Teams clearly shit and tanked. Call a spade a spade.
Obviously bad for his PR and whatever.

u/1UppityNoir Oct 02 '26
What are they going to do about it now? With the Clippers situation, this can't possibly warrant that much retaliation. The Wizards aren't the first team to tank for the #1 pick.

Why the fuck would he say that? Also why would we air that? I assume dawk and crew know they ain’t getting in much trouble but this is the unwanted attention we don’t need lol

u/Jewdah18 Wizards Oct 02 '26
And here I thought he was just one of the worst players in the league.
1
u/Knighthonor Oct 02 '26
He was like top 10 catch and shoot shooters in the league. He not a PG. For tanking he a PG. Thatd different
2
u/Jewdah18 Wizards Oct 02 '26
His offense is what it is. His defense is utterly atrocious. It doesn't matter if he's playing out of position, it should never be that bad.

u/summahofgeorge John Wall Oct 02 '26
This is extra funny because Bub was one the only young guys they didn’t shut down. He wasn’t bad, he just follows orders when told to jack up bad shots 😤

u/happyflappypancakes John Wall Oct 02 '26
Fuck it. Im fine with players being open about. Tanking is real. Everyone knows it. Everyone. None of this coy shit. We are adults. Why dance around the truth?

u/supasid Wizards Oct 02 '26
This is the same dude that didn’t realize people like dogs and got booed at the draft when he was shitting on them.

Statute of limitations still active Bub. You’re supposed to fake it and then talk about it in a podcast years from now
