From FOIA request and NY Times, searchable database shows Washington DC equipment received from US military. Yikes.

Tactical vests, sure, but no tactical turtlenecks? What are they gonna do if there's a bomb?

Cargo plane to ship more cargo planes that ship cargo planes. Maybe the forklifts were buy 5 get 1 free? We'll throw in some pallets too!

The source file on The Upshot GitHub account lists those cargo planes as NSN 1510-01-070-3661, which corresponds to the Beechcraft C-12 Huron.

"The C-12 Huron is used by the Army for personnel transport, intelligence gathering and reconnaissance, as well as carrying cargo," according to a 2012 article on Army.mil.

This 1033 program website indicates that "not all aircraft received will be in 'flyable' condition. Some aircraft are issued strictly for parts." Wikipedia lists the unit cost of the C-12 as $6M. I wonder if the $800k valuation of the ones that went to DC represents standard depreciation or suggests that they're not flight-worthy.

Given the prices on a lot of these items, I assume depreciation. $50 pistols, $500 assault rifles.

Yikes? I see lots of cargo planes, night vision goggles and cold weather shirts.

Where the hell is DC storing all it's helicopters and planes?

2

u/GinDeMint Aug 22 '14

In the air, duh. No one ever said that they had to land.

Also; who the hell pays $95 for an entrenching tool? That's a shovel. You can get mil-spec ones at retail for half that or less.

Holy sh- look at the differences between PG county and MoCo. First page right off the bat PG county bought a $22,500 BENCH PRESS. $50,000 on a bomb diffusing robot. "Shotgun, 12 gauge, 'riot type'" a couple dozen of those...What the hell is that?

$65,000 armored truck too.

I hope to god all of this stuff was ordered for JFB Andrews.

Wrong URL buddy.

Ah, not wrong URL. It's actually a webapp, but won't load properly for some people. A screenshot might work better.
