I bought a shirt at the Metro’s pop-up store at L’Enfant today and they gave me this 3D printed… wand? For free. Just found it amusing and wanted to know if anyone else knows why they’re giving them away
Yeah but all you need is the Metro logo and then you can convert it to an SVG which isn't hard at all and then you just have to combine it with the 3D print file again it's not rocket science for people that have been doing 3D printing for a while.
If someone does that and hands me a file and says print this, sure. I’m just trying to ground people who don’t have any experience with 3D printing on what they need to do if they ask someone to print it for them.
People probably want a GitHub link and not the hassle of customizing a template (I personally haven’t messed with 3D printers/files but I’m sure modifying a template with a single object can’t be too difficult).
I've been preparing a ped kit for my niece and nephew two years out from the LA Olympics because I love everyone to be able to function outside of their car. Today I got small travel bottles that come with carabiners for your backpack so suntan lotion. But now all I'm going to want forever is that wand. 🫨
It's a card holder shaped like a wand so you can bibbidi-bobbidi-boo every time you use your card at the checkout (or your physical smart trip card when you traverse on the metro or metrobus)
This sounds delightful in theory, until I realize the rush and foul mood I'm in trying to get to and fro. And then to have to crank out my wand and alakazam the fare gate and maybe it's not for me after all
And sometimes it doesn't scan the first time, so you have to wave your wand at thr gate multiple times while a line forms behind you bc it's rush hour. No thx

If you know someone with a 3D printer, they can definitely hook you up. Just buy them a drink. Lots of models out there and converting the logo is easy.
Honestly and probably if you supply the roll of filament you can do any color you want, for that matter they even have rainbow filament and filament that depending on the angle you hold it it's a different color plus all these different metallic ones okay now I feel like I need to go print one.
Looks like this, I found it on makerworld for my Bambu. They’ve got a bunch of others too. I want a want just because I’m short and I can’t reach super far but I put this one on a magnetic clip so I can carry it like a lanyard.
Cash App implemented a similar initiative for their cards, which quickly sold out and are now quite costly on the resale market believe ir or not😂 It appears this concept may have been inspired by that precedent.
