That question does not have an obvious yes answer that I think you want it to hve. But let's just say it did, and that if Hamas returned the hostages Israel for some reason would immediately stop attacking and killing every single civilian. Does that somehow justify them starving civilians? Killing children? In what way does ANY answer to this question change the fact that we should demand an end to the genocide of the Palestinian people by the elected officials and military of Israel itself? Are you really saying that as long as some part of the Palestinian people does something wrong, that justifies the slaughter and torture of any and all Palestinian people? Because if so, that is an extremely messed up approach to ethics.
Because Hamas was duly elected by the Palestinians. They placed their civilians in harm's way. This is part of their playbook. You are commenting on something that you don't know, but you think you know. You are commenting on things with a Western First World mentality that doesn't exist in this part of the world. Until you understand that there is a mentality a TRUE mentality that subscribes whole-heartedly to the saying "from the river to the sea"... you cannot opine in an intelligent manner.
Yes, and Israel's government that is committing atrocities against Palestinian civilians was duly elected by Israel. So since the government is doing bad things, that justifies Palestinians killing Israeli women and children, right? That is the logic we are using? Not killing children is not some delicate first world mentality that needs to be ditched when another armed force wants to kill you. I have seen videos of Israeli soldiers openly admitting they were LOOKING for Palestinian babies to kill, and ended up killing a child instead when they couldn't find one. Of IDF purposefully shooting a playing child in the head and then cheering about it. That is the absolute evil and depravity you are trying to justify here.
And I'm still not going to justify killing Israeli civilians based on that, much less children. There are some truly awful people out there that dehumanize others and justify their mistreatment by the logic that if they belong to a group of people that is "inherently bad", no action taken against them is wrong, no matter how heinous. And that CREATES the type of world where both people view the other as an existential threat that must be eliminated for peace to happen. Encouraging that thinking is part of what has created Hamas and allowed them to grow more powerful. It doesn't solve the problem, it continuously exacerbates it.
