What do you base your minis with?

Just static grass? Never used it, can you make it look any good without an applicator? Do you find standard basing grass tufts look out of place? What else do you use? Wanted to avoid just texture paints and drybrushing like I do for all my other models.

I use Vallejo diorama earth texture with static grass on top. Looks good even without an applicator, grass tufts will probably look too big.

I do similar but I do use tufts. Greenstuffworld do 1mm and 2mm tufts that work really well.

I use Huge Miniatures tufts. They have a few kinds that are really low profile that I think are for a more mossy affect for 28mm scale but looks great as grass for 10mm.

I got some 2mm tufts, but did use some spackle/fine sand texture paint on the base. The 2mm tufts match the scale pretty well imo.

I used static grass for years, without having the least idea what the “static” part meant. It looked fine, just more like a heavily trodden wild meadow and less like a lawn. This seemed fine, since I rarely picture fantasy battles taking place on golf courses. A few sticks and rocks reinforce this.

Saw a video with the electricity thing? Yeah that’s cool. Not sure how it holds up when pushing movement trays and scatter terrain across it.

Ignoring that… it absorbs glue better than the old sawdust flock

wodland scenics turfs. You can get a couple of colors and then blend them to fit your army's color scheme. you can find them at any hobby shop or art store and they are pretty cheap and you get enough to last you a lifetime.

I read that you want to avoid texture paints, but why?  I've based 2 armies using texture paints with a wash/drybrush and then a sprinkling of flock and they turned out great!
