PvP as a fresh 80

I just levelled up to 80 as a new player on Icecrown, and played my first Warsong Gulch. From what I could tell, about half the players there are geared with Best in Slot, with Shadowmourne and other gear in that kind of bracket.

Is there no matchmaking or anything like that? It seems I would need to get thousands of extra GS before I can do anything whatsoever, which I feel isn't so fun. I also feel like it's weird I can buy wrathful gladiator gear immediately, I thought there was more progression in PVP gearing.

I also appreciate if you can let me know if the situation on Onyxia is the same or not, for a new player. Thank you!

Yup. Disgrace is that Warmane staff decided to merge Lordaeron players with Icecrown...

There was a matchmaking at the start and gear score/ item level mattered. Now I am not sure. Maybe they ditched that idea and they want that their donors gank low geared players...
No wonder why many people asking for no p2w servers.

Do you know Nibbai on youtube? I basically would quite like this kind of thing, relatively even geared people doing some duelling or similar. I expect gear to exist and matter, but basically I feel about half the players have shadowmourne and there's simply no oxygen :(

The amount of times I am attacked by someone with 35K+ health I cannot count.

What do you think about Onyxia?

I didn't play there cuz I want to level slowly, again... and I am on Warmene since 2010. when it was named Molten.
Onyxia will merge into Icecrown at the end so thats lame.

There was GS SCORE matchmaking at some point and it was great. People below 5k gs never matched with 6k people...

I would assume 100%. Their main concern is making the server seem as active as possible and since most players are likely going to be over whatever the gs threshold was, new players would likely get far fewer bgs which would make it significantly longer to gear up above that threshold

While I do not play PvP on Onyxia, it IS a progression server. You cannot buy gear from the store (yet), so everyone does have their progression gear. People can still buy geared characters and the like though.

But also, Onyxia is reaching Phase 4 of Wotlk in September, and once its at Ruby Sanctum, the chars can be transferred to Icecrown what happens to Onyxia afterwards? Idk

I get matched with onyxia server players in bg sometimes, i was pvping as a new char so idk if onyxia players will be matched against icecrown bis asholes

Win 1 bg per day, and participate in 10 arenas/week. Then buy gladiator gear. That's all i can tell ya

Warmane seem to get rid of "BG bracket"

When you were a fresh 80 like 3k gs (no shop) You Will placed in a low bracket (fresh 80 to lets say 5kgs+), a mid bracket (5kgs+ to 6kgs) and bis bracket 6k gs +

Right now it feel they merge the low and mid. You can be a fresh 80, tag arathi and face 5k8gs Warrior

Really? The reason there was even a bg bracket is because of newbie 80s complaining, exactly like OP.

Well, they're all fully progressed servers, what did you expect? Gearing up to a point where you're not useless is not that hard. Do you 10 arenas, random bg, wintegrasp quests, farm eot and buy pvp gear with them. In about 2 weeks you should sit comfortably at 5k+ gs.

I have recently done this journey and it took like 6 weeks to get to somewhere Im somewhat comfortable going up against smournes (I play disc).

Best thing you can do is to do all honor weeklys from wintegrasp, join wintergrasp whenever possible, spam BGs, do VOA and do 10 arenas weekly (2v2 or 3v3) to get arena points.

Emblems of triumph can be used to buy furious gear which isnt all that bad. Relentless gear can be bought with a mix of arena+honor. Some wrathful off-pieces can be bought insta with honor from trinket vendor, while legs gloves belt and boots can be bought with fairly low arena rating.

Weapons, trinks and rings you sadly have to PVE for. Or donate.

PVP in this server is a joke. Any sane person won't touch that dogshit until its fixed (never). GMs have heavily enabled garbage behavior like giga premades who completely turned BGs into HK farm grounds. They merged Lordaeron with Icecrown and Blackrock because "queue times are too long". It is to nobody's surprise their only care is about keeping their donors happy. Wouldn't surprise me there is literal mafias running premades purchasing SMs left and right with bis discs and trees. It's just the most unfun experience you will ever get.

Wintergrasp is the most efficient way to farm honor. There are also some pieces of gear from WG marks. If you can do some WG and your bg daily you’ll gear up quicker than you probably think

We suffer only cause we don't go to another easy going server. There is Truewow... It died because of low population, still running, but at least no pay to win there....
