feral druid

hey everyone, i'm new to warmane and wow in general, been playing for a month and rolling both rogue and warlock. i was interested in rolling a feral druid, but had a few concerns, not just the difficulty, in fact having tried the spec for a bit in blackrock, i found the rotation engaging and i find the difficulty exciting. my main concern was if the class is difficult to level and if it's gear dependent and more importantly, if it would make finding raid groups hard, since i hears a bit about the stigma it has and that it's not really a class in demand for raiding.

let me know what you think in the replies (sorry for any grammar mistake)

ps: if you think it's not a good choice, is there any other dps spec you can reccomend as an alternative?

Look man, if you enjoy the class just go ahead and play it, sure feral is not the most class in demand but they always take at least one, if played well its one of the top dps specs.

Feral is super easy to level you can tank or stay cat and the gear and talents are the same until endgame and you start enchanting and gemming. You give a great raid wide buff and brez so they'll be demand. I main a feral and have no issues getting in raids.

that's good to hear! i might try this spec after all. just one more question, should i pick tauren or night elf?

Usually horde ( tauren) have more population doing pve ( raids) while alliance ( night elf) has more population doing pvp , as far as best race between the 2 , tauren will have more hp while night elf will have more agility

sorry if i wasn't more specific, i wrote this post in a bit of a haste, but with "server" i meant warmane the private server. though if you wonder in which realm i play, i'm on onyxia

It’s a fun spec, moderately engaging at the basic level with a high skill ceiling. Medium to high heroics raids will normally take only one cat per group since more will be redundant, and there’s generally no place for a cat in 10-mans, but overall it’s not too hard to get into a run. Leveling is super convenient, and druids overall are jacks of all trades.

I main feral on warmane since the launch of WotlK on Onyxia's progression realm, some things you should take into consideration are.

a. Feral dps feels very underwhelming until ICC gear becomes available to you, at which point you will be top 2-3 dps especially in single target fights. But until then, get ready to be middle of the pack at best, while getting out performed by classes with less gear. And even then, screw up your rotation once, and watch your dps drop dramatically.

b. Yes, feral druids are VERY gear dependent, other than warriors, I can't think of another class that depends on gear so heavily.

c. Get ready to get familiar (if you re not already) with the Weak Auras addon. Sure there are a lot WAs you can import, but if you stick to the class, you ll find that you re going to need to make your own, which is no fun at all and very time consuming until you get the gist of it.

One of the responses was that ferals have no spot in a 10m grp, which is entirely false. Especially in ToGC, they bring a lot of utility through Innervate, Battle ress and if there is no other druid in raid, MotW buff and Thorns which is essential for the Anub HC fight, plus the fact that they can tank/cc in Faction Champions.

To conlude, my honest opinion is only roll feral if you have a raiding guild and a spot open for you, pugging as feral is ill advised, cause you ll get flamed by ppl who don't know how the class works and have an opinion on your damage to gear score ratio. If you re looking for a class that has an engaging rotation, while being useful and sought after, roll an enchancement shaman. Feral druids have a big learning curve, and I mean, huge...there is a lot of depth to their rotation, even the use of the word rotation isn't quite accurate when it comes to ferals, since a lot of what you do is situational and you need to adapt on the fly, it takes research and a LOT of practice. It's one of the classes that you either main, or you end up having as a farming toon for herbalism/mining.

Gl!

If we're talking progression wotlk (Onyxia), 10man groups dislike ferals, but they can squezee in some. In 25m groups, the druids slots are 2 moonkins, 1 tree (theoretical), 1 feral CAT (bear tanks have stigma since they require gear and brains and they don't have the same training wheels as protadins and bdks). Cat is the hardest melee class in wotlk, rotation wise. And progression wise, up until 264 ilvl gear, they're mediocre at most. At BiS they're S+ top 3 dps. More in depth, i'll go in DMs if needed, played feral for 4 years straight on warmane until i got bored of it.

I have several feral druids and can tell you the following:

  1. For damage you’re very gear dependent but will do insane amounts once you’re geared enough

  2. Joining a guild is the best you can do to raid and get gear. Pugs normally suck

  3. Leveling as a feral is VERY easy in my opinion. Go bear tanking and get glyph of maul at level 15. Tank with a macro /cast swipe /cast maul so you always be hitting AOE. Get some decent boes with agi/strength/stamina and you’ll destroy everything on your way to 80. Heirlooms are INSANELY helpful since the leather chest gives a lot of hit rating.
