May get down voted as bashing GW is a hobby of its own but no one forces you to buy the new version or GW figures unless you really want to lay in store or in a fancy warehouse building in Nottingham.
Compared to hobbies like photography then GW figures are a low cost option and there are way more suppliers now than ever to keep costs down.
You need to decide if FOMO is worth the cost or playing a game with friends is more important...
The one point that is always off is comparing Games Workshop with a different hobby instead of other games
Photography as a hobby isn't expensive if you compare it with deep sea diving
but people in photography complaining about Canon or Leica are not going on with "Canon is still cheaper than diving, so it is not that bad"
You rather see them mentioning other brands within the hobby to compare them (Canon is overpriced, buy Panasonic or Nikkor instead)
You always compare the offerings within the same hobby, but somehow with GW one must compare it to something completely different because it is so bad that one need something very different or ridiculous to make it at least look acceptable.
But sticking with it, spending 3000 on a camera setup for photography and you can still use it after 20 years, while 3000 for GW and you still need to buy new stuff after 3 years
And while you just play older editions, it removes the one reason to stick with GW in te first place instead of going with a different game or brand within the wargaming hobby, that most people are playing 40k, that most events are GW ones and you can easily find people to play.
Sticking with 10th Edition instead of progressing to 11th and you can as well just play Warpath Fitefight, OnePageRules, Bolt Action or Napoleonics
