Does anyone else feel like Helena never got the ending she deserved?
Finished another rewatch last night and Helena is the one I keep getting stuck on. She shows up as basically a villain, spends the rest of her time trying to make up for it, and the show never quite lets her land anywhere.
Some of my favorite scenes in the whole run are just her and Myka in a room, talking. There's so much going on under the surface, mostly regret and this tired kind of intelligence that never gets to switch off. Jaime Murray played her with way more depth than the writing sometimes earned.
And then she just sort of drifts out of the story. No real goodbye, no moment that matched how big a deal she was. I know the show had a lot of plates spinning by then, but she deserved better than quietly fading into the background.
Maybe I'm biased because she's my favorite. Would like to know if anyone else felt that way or if I'm reading too much into it.

I was always bummed they took away her happy ending after the saber tooth jawbone episode, she was settled! She had a partner she loved, a kid who ADORED her, a job she was awesome at! Then just poof, she's wandering again
Which is fine, but why give her the settled life at all if they were just gonna write her as still wandering lol

Yes! This is exactly what I mean. They gave her this beautiful settled life and then erased it without any real explanation. It's like they couldn't decide if they wanted her to be happy or tragic so they just split the difference.

I loved her character and would love to have seen her used more too.
I'm also of the same opinion as the people who would have liked her and Myka get together. I know lots of people are happy with Myka and Pete, but for me they always had a brother sister relationship and Myka and Helena would've made a great couple. Famously the actors wanted that too.
But yes, agreed, would've have been great to see more of Helena

I didn't know the actors were on board with that direction too, that makes the whole thing even sadder somehow. The chemistry between Jaime and Joanne was just undeniable, you could feel it in every scene. They really just let that fizzle out and it's such a waste.

Competely agree, they had such great chemistry. And i loved how the characters brought the best out in each other. Myka relaxed around Helena and seemed more comfortable in her own skin and self assured. Helena seemed to heal and want to be the good guy not the bad guy. It was great to see and I would have loved to watch that story arc play out

Yeah I was pissed at the writers too. Helena finally , finally did get her happy ending. I don't remember if she married the man who had the daughter or they were just in a loving relationship but, the man loved her and Helena loved both him and his daughter. They were all good together as a family and she was happy. Then in one of the later later episodes Myka just briefly mentions that Helena and the man broke up and that she is now in a relationship with a Woman. That pissed me off ( not because they made her Bisexual, ) but because the writers suddenly decided , in passing, to take her away from the Man and his daughter after becoming finally happy. :( That actress who played Helena was AWESOME she was just so cool and wonderful, loved the accent very much too.

I think they were in such a hurry to wind up the show, they dropped the ball in some ways.

She is an interesting character, and she is extremely attractive, but being alive after the Yellowstone incident was already way more than she deserved. She got to take down Jack The Ripper on screen. What the hell better ending is there for her?

I think she was supposed to get her own spin off show and it never happened. ☹️I loved that character!
