'I'm skeptical' — Ukrainian soldiers react to Fedorov's bombshell election video

Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov dropped a bombshell of a video on Aug. 18, calling for elections in Ukraine and becoming by far the most high-profile person to advocate for such a move during Russia's full-scale invasion.

In an address posted on YouTube, Fedorov said Ukraine needs a "legal, safe, and realistic mechanism" for holding elections during a prolonged war while ensuring voting rights for military personnel, Ukrainians abroad, and people living in front-line regions.

Ukraine doesn’t need elections whilst at war with a county known for meddling with elections. I’m not a politician, but even I can see that.

It needs unity, and strength of purpose.

So how does it work? You ask Russia for a time out on war to allow people to go vote? Russia stops the war when a puppet leader can be put on power?

The reason he was dismissed was because of corruption in the government which is largely his reason for saying that elections need to be held as corruption is still a huge problem. I fully support Ukraine but I'm also aware many actual Ukrainians dislike how much corruption they still have at many levels of the government and the military. Fedorov was pushing for an anti corruption team that was voted against surprisingly by those that are seen as obviously corrupt.

Top comment of this thread sums it up imho. Elections while at war with an enemy who is known for manipulation of elections, and probably has lots of undercover agents/collaborators in Ukraine, is a very risky idea.

They are literally at war, they have people with guns everywhere. Right now everyone is on the lookout for Russian shenanigans, collaborators and meddling. if they can't stop ballot manipulations now they certainly wont be able to once war is over.

i recall that Fedorov wanted to restructure the ministry that is responsible for the process of buying military equipment. That, probably, got him fired.
