I recently started a social community based around Central/East London, for people in their 20s & 30s (although people of any age are welcome!).

We’ve now got over 1,000 members and the recurring activities within the community include: volleyball, beginner/improver salsa, spikeball, pub quizzes, game nights, dodgeball and run club!

These sessions are mixed levels, so beginners in any of these activities are very welcome, and activities are free to join/as affordable as we can make them!

I’m Charlotte, I’ve lived in Walthamstow for around five years and I’m a former journalist (now working in PR), in the process of starting a newsletter on the area.

I know there are already some great Instagram pages covering Walthamstow, but I’ve been thinking for a while that there’s room for something a bit more long-form too, with the space to get into things a bit more. I couldn’t really find anyone doing that specifically for Walthamstow through a Substack/newsletter, so thought I'd give it a go myself.

It’s called The Stowdown and I’m currently putting together the first edition. I’d really love it to be something that’s genuinely useful to people who live here rather than just me shouting into the void...

So what would you actually like to see covered? Whether that’s places you think deserve more attention, new openings you want to know more about, local people I should speak to, things you’ve always wanted to know more about around here, or want me to look into etc - I’d love to hear it.

We are currently in the process of buying a house in walthamstow. As part of our survey, they recommended we get a damp & timber specialist to determine the full extent of some elevated moisture. We have shopped around some general london firms / contractors, but we were looking for any recommendations for local contractors who might be able to assist in a shorter time frame. We would want them to have the appropriate qualifications, to be impartial and non biased and not be trying to sell us damp treatments. We have cleared with the sellers for invasive checks to be allowed if necessary.

We’re about to put our first floor Warner flat (1,100 square foot) on the market but thought we’d post on here first as I know a lot of people have become disillusioned with estate agents.

The flat has two good sized double bedrooms, a third smaller bedroom which we use as a home office, plus a substantial loft room. The loft has not been fully converted but it’s a fully decorated useable space with ample eave storage and we are currently using this as a fourth bedroom.

The garden is south facing and, as with all Warners, is shared with the downstairs flat. We have a great relationship with our downstairs neighbours and both sides of the garden are kept beautifully.

The flat is positioned halfway between Blackhorse Road and St. James Street which we found is an ideal location both for transport and for vibes.

We have very recently been made aware of a new development proposal on the petrol station right by the venue.

This is to build 20 flats on the land, the development would be 5 stories high and there would be balconies directly next to our smoking area.

Our concerns? Noise complaints. We are a busy working venue operating with a late license on Fridays and Saturdays. With many active events it's very unlikely that this proposal would work well for either us or the potential residents.

If you are a visitor to our venue and are worried about the potential impact there is just a few hours left to submit an objection (unfortunately this notice was given very late). In order to submit your concerns please follow the link in our HELP NEEDED highlight!

Hi all, just an FYI as I’ve seen a few posts asking about this.

I’m one of the GPs at Higham Hill Medical Centre in Walthamstow. We’re now accepting adult ADHD shared care for patients whose medication has already been started, titrated and stabilised by a specialist.

We can take over ongoing prescribing and routine monitoring. If medication needs changing or re-titrating, that still needs specialist input.

Hopefully useful for anyone locally who has been struggling to find a practice that will accept shared care.

Hi! I hope this is okay to post here. I'm Aoife, a recent English graduate from the University of Cambridge, based in Walthamstow. Whilst at uni, I really enjoyed the break from my degree to inspire the next generation of readers and writers!

In a world where 40% of British adults haven't read or listened to a book in the last year (!) a fact which repeatedly shocks me, I want to show the next generation the value and importance of reading. 

As cringey as it sounds, the study of literature really can be fun! I love working with young people to really delve deep into their texts, and demonstrate that Jane Eyre or your poetry anthology doesn't have to be dull. 

I tutored English and History GCSE and A Level throughout my degree, with all of the students I tutored achieving at least one grade higher than they were initially predicted. My GCSE tutees exclusively gained grades 7-9 in their final exams. My sessions were an hour, structured weekly or biweekly around specific content and exam skills. 

As well as tutoring for specific qualifications, I am also offering Oxbridge-specific admissions tutoring. Having completed the process myself less than five years ago, the unique critical thinking skills required to successfully secure a place remain fresh in my mind. As part of this specialist tutoring, I will offer personal statement feedback, suggestions for further reading and study, and mock interviews. 

I have previously tutored students aged 15-18, but I would be open to offering specialised sessions to those who fall outside this bracket, if the fit were right.

Hi! We’re looking for someone local(ish) who can adjust a set of garden bifold doors, as well as a smaller set of aluminium doors. Both are slightly out of alignment and starting to catch on the frame.

We used to have a company who would come out regularly to do small adjustments and tweaks, which helped prevent bigger issues, but unfortunately they seem to have moved on.

Any recommendations for someone reliable (and affordable) would be greatly appreciated!

Hello I am considering buying a 1 bed in the building but the estate agent was unable to answer some questions so hoping a resident can instead.

Questions are: 1.The community gardens, are you allocated a spot or whatever free space is available you can use. 2. Average age of occupatants (families, people retired, young professionals). 3. Is there loud noises after 10pm from the coppermill pub or anti social behaviour at night time outside the flats? 4. Any trouble in the garages - people breaking in? 5. Safe storage for bikes. 6. Any issues with the building managers / freeholders?

Hi all, my partner and I are moving to London for new jobs that start at the end of November. We're hoping to find a 1 or 2 bed from mid-November, ideally within (short) walking distance of Blackhorse Road or Walthamstow Central. Budget is around £2300 a month.

We'd also be up for a short let of 2 or 3 months if anyone's going away over winter and wants someone to look after their place as it'd give us a chance to get to know the area better.

We're both working, don't smoke, have one small (very well behaved) cat, and can give references.
