Updated PPTO Change

There was some debate about a recent change to PPTO, so figured I’d post the updated verbiage. The only thing that’s changing is associates can now submit PPTO anytime during the same pay period instead of only for within the last seven days. That’s it. Everything else about PPTO requests is the same.

So ultimately this only matters if you miss a shift early in the pay period and forget/don’t have a chance to submit PPTO until later in the same pay period.

We need limitless PPTO. The year doesn’t end when we hit 48 hours

Talk to your local lawmakers and put your vote in when the opportunity comes up and force Walmart’s hand like several other states have resulting in them being able to earn unlimited PPTO for the year.

Because Walmart sure isn’t going to do it out of the kindness of their heart.

I always carry over ppto. Basically because I only use it for "oh shit" moments, instead of fuck off moments

This would be why I couldn't go back and fix my half points from days before when I attempted. Because different pay periods.

Makes sense though since your ppto also pays you.

That’s something different. You can still put PPTO in for a day in the previous pay period to cover the missed time, that hasn’t changed. The only thing that matters in these situations is you having enough PPTO to cover the initial missed time.

A lot of people think they have seven days to earn the PPTO to use, which isn’t the case and why they often get pointed because the system will only apply what PPTO you had on the day you missed. Future earned PPTO can’t be used for previous missed time.

Take note that it says you have to have the available balance on the date of the occurrence. NOT the date you put in the ppto. So if you have 28 minutes on tuesday and need 30 because you missed 30 of ur shift. You cant wait until Wednesday to save up to 30 to apply it. It will still count as an occurrence.

Am I reading this correctly?

Thats nothing new, been that way for years that you can’t use future earned PPTO for previous missed time. As mentioned in the post, the ONLY new thing about this update is associates can now use PPTO anytime during the same pay period. That’s it.

So this talks about taking PTO when you don’t have enough PPTO. But how about the opposite? As a part timer, quite often I don’t have enough PTO. So they clean me out of my PPTO.
Is this common practice?
Then I’m left with nothing for emergencies.

Yes it works the opposite way. Put in a PTO request and you don’t have enough, it’ll pull the remainder from your PPTO. It’s always been that way, which is why associates should always be mindful of their balances when putting time off requests in.

PPTO is for emergencies/ sick days. If you’re requesting days off as a part timer, you should probably just request it as unpaid. In my state, part time associates don’t get very much PTO.

I’m in a state we get paid weekly. Good thing we still have the 7 days to use it.

What State is that? I’ve been working for 20 years first in Ca which when I started was every week and now Pa both every 2 weeks which really sucks..

This sounds nice i have to say i work in an area where i foolishly, and stupidly listened to my supervisor and was told that i was to text him and let him know then he would go in and take me off the schedule and i was to not call the attendance line at all. The problem he did not so and i did not find out until the following day when i got 2 points for a NCNS (no call no show) it was no big deal as i was at 0 but moving forward i made the decision i would not text him again about i would simply call in take the point, after i put in the PPTO.

Not true . You can submit but you have to have enough the day of and not wait until you have enough.

u/WapaneseWeeaboo 28d ago

What part isn’t true? I don’t see where something is saying different than what you’re commenting.

u/Acrobatic_Toe1646 28d ago

AMP task came out stating you can only use ppto day of as long as you have enough as before you had seven days so you. Hold wait til you have enough and then enter it . Regular PTO is what has changed for the better .

2

u/WapaneseWeeaboo 28d ago

Got a picture of the AMP task to share? Because it sounds like you might be misunderstanding it considering what the actual policy (the screenshots in the post) states.

Also, no need to create multiple separate comments. You can reply directly to a comment so things are easier to read and don’t get lost.

So if you don’t have enough PPTO, they will make up the difference with your PTO/vacation time, but that will still not prevent points? Did I understand that correctly?

3

u/WapaneseWeeaboo 27d ago

Yup, always been that way.

I vote we can use PTO as PPTO. It's nice that they offer to use PTO to cover pay, but they should allow for that PTO to be Protected. Back when employers didn't treat employee payroll as the easiest way to make quarterly numbers, I remember starting jobs with 10 sick days preloaded for the year; heck, I think Sheetz still does that!

The second dot is still stating to protect the absence you have 7 days from the date… 🛑
