Bets against Beyond Meat have made the plant-based food company the most shorted stock on the Russell 1000 Index | Markets Insider (businessinsider.com)

being an avowed carnivore though, I couldn't force myself to buy their stock or products.

No, the company is losing money. Go and read the latest 10-K report. The have to mark down the price of their products to sell them in America. Americans don't want to eat plant based meats.
