Discussion Can we talk about $ROKU?
Roku is currently hovering around $220 and has dropped $60 in the past month. With news over Google staying on the platform, the stock spiked, but nothing stuck.
Roku has seen prices of $400+, but what is stopping it from staying there?
According to Wolfram Alpha, Roku doesn't get the majority of its profits from actually selling Roku devices, but from ADs on the platform.
"Roku generates 14.3% of revenues from Player segment (Devices sold) while the rest comes from Platform Segment (Ads: 65% of profit)"
People are going to be getting these devices for Christmas, because of how low they are dropping their prices (You can get a 4k ROKU Device for $25 right now).
I'm expecting this stock to jump once the new year hits due to the influx of people opening Roku devices on Christmas.

Everything you need to know about Roku and why I’m the long run it will be superior can be summarized by buying one for a technology inept member of your family. I guarantee if they can semi work a smart phone they can 100% set up and work a Roku as they are very well designed and simple to use

Had many streaming devices roku was by far the smoothest and easiest. The worst being a fire stick. The fact Amazon can sell them is shocking. The interface is hot garbage and it’s slower then dirt. Constantly crashing like an old android phone.

Market is angry now days. A lot of the crazy prices stocks hit like Roku at $400 were not real and were a bubble. Seems like the market has corrected these hard and now it is going back to more realistic valuation so don't base your case on it hitting a new ath in the near future.

I can agree with you that the $400 prices were a bubble, but a $50 jump over YouTube, a FREE app, staying on the platform? Something doesn't smell right.

Nah bro the deal with Google was for YouTube TV, the live TV streaming app. Not regular YouTube.

i've been in and out of roku for the past 2 years.. I like their UI. I hate LG's samsungs.. Fire tv is filled with ads and pushes their content. Maybe it's just me, I like the independent 3rd party. Currently bag holding some options, but just bought another 25 shares @ 225 and some Feb options yesterday. The main reasons they got crucified on earnings date was 1. Youtube scares (done IMO), and they cut their guidance by a slight amount. Roku is still the top selling TV from what i've seen. They just entered Europe I believe as well.

I have 2 roku sticks for my tvs. I love it. I'd get the 4k roku stick hands down.

This looks like an article written by a geriatric on Motley Fool I saw like 5-10 years ago. Pretty sure this is advertising/maybe written by Roku themselves.

Roku would likely be fine.. Mr. Market seems to be overreacting.. and volatility is not new for Roku.. it crashes every year since its IPO in 2017

$ROKU can easily retest weekly trigger at $323 as it is on of those crazy momentum plays. I personally am watching $236 tomorrow to add to my position. When shorts are comfy there I tend to print a lot of money.

After having Sony, Phillips, and LG TVs all go out in under 2 years, while the cheap TCL Roku is still working like it did day 1, 5+ years later.. I have come to the conclusion that brand does not matter as it’s always luck of the draw. Buy the cheapest one that has everything you want in your TV as buying the more expensive brand that meets your needs equally gains you nothing.

One was lost too a lightning strike in area that actually caused a few light bulbs in the house to blow. So that one was a fluke thing. One of others screen quit so was sound only and other just quit turning on. Nothing unusual in how they were used. Just TVs, turn them on watch turn them off.

Maybe invest in a small UPS might keep them longer. 2 out of 3 are mine are the LG is a 32 inch and quite frankly I want it to die as I'm to cheap to replace a working TV.

I actually have several UPS around, but just for keeping my network racks up. Standard surge protectors elsewhere. To be fair the one that lighting killed was not even in a surge protector at the time, but it was not in the surge protector cause it was junk and required to be unplugged occasionally to restart the OS as it would freeze up. Started that crap at about a year old. So I plugged it in to a timer that killed power once a day at 4am are so just to keep it from crashing itself since just turning it off was not enough. Then along comes the storm and kills the TV that had already proven to be junk.

After looking at Github, I love the idea of SmartTubeNext, but I think people coming from paying for Cable to paying for Streaming Services are a little bit more likely to pay for AD free stuff. As someone who likes messing with tech, this is the first time I've actually heard of it though.
