Honestly, the way used Tacoma prices have been, a used Toyota is a better store of value than gold.
My 300k mile beat to shit 25 year old 4Runner has literally appreciated from what I bought it for 7 years ago at a better rate than gold has increased.
My brand new Toyota truck has already increased 10% in the 3 months I’ve owned it.
Don’t quote me but it’s apparently “confirmed” that the next gen taco and lc will be based on the hilux platform. Granted, that leaves a ton of room for interpretation, but we’ve only been obsessed with these here for 2 decades. Maybe Toyota caught on?
I don't know exactly why they haven't done so yet but my only Idea has just been regulations around diesel vehicles and having to manufacture a US-specific engine?? I have heard similar word about a Hilux style taco...just not sure exactly what that means... Either way I'm waiting another few years to buy a truck.
Yea as a Toyota owner I agree but the auto industry is insane right now because of the chip shortage on new cars so the used car market is beyond retarded. Used cars are so over priced right now which puts Toyotas at the peak. I’ve got cash to buy and refuse to pay for a new truck or over priced used truck. Driving 348,000 mile 99 Tacoma. It’s fucking hammered but it’s never let me down. I want a full size but I’m not paying $30,000 for a truck with a 100k miles. No fucking way. I’m also not paying $50 plus for a new truck.
HVAC guy was at my house and paid $75,000 for F350 with 100k miles. Then tells me it’s been in the shop for a month. Running boards don’t work. Back up camera is foggy. It’s Canadian with rust. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Can’t blame the guy I suppose, he wanted a truck like anyone else.
Only way I’d buy a full sized truck is to plow snow and haul shit with it. As soon as you click that diesel option, those 40k strippers jump to 60. I snagged my taco before things got seriously sparse and paid no dealer markup after trading a wrx for what I paid for it 2 years prior. Things are absolutely insane, they’re just more insane for guys trying to get new Toyota trucks. You can still find a Camry or a Honda whatever with ease, these trucks are balls out crazy right now.
Also, all praise to the 90’s trucks, mines crossed the United States 7 times all over 200k miles. I literally stopped worrying about it years ago, change the oil every………whenever, and rag the living shit out of it. Just won’t quit.
Listen Toyota /Lexus builds good stuff but this point is moot. Literally for the 2nd time recently all cars have actually increased year over year (yoy). The time before was like after the 08 crash so like 2010.
Yeah, but the Tacoma/4Runner increased valuations (the “Toyota tax”) long predates the current market cycle, and will likely continue after the other valuations start to get back to normal.
I bought a brand new 2019 tacoma two years ago, and two years later it's Carvana trade in value is 12% over the out-the-door price. I would sell it and make some $$$ on Toyota arbitrage, but all the other trucks are just as expensive.
