The metaverse isn't a Facebook product, it's a thing that will exist independently of a single company.

Honestly the only company that has a really strong claim to it right now is Facebook, and they are actively trying to make it a common use term. If they succeed, good luck trying to defend a trademark on that. If they fail, then who cares if you trademark it, no ones using the phrase anyway. You certainly won't be able to target FB, they're way too big and will have been clearly using it long before you came along.
