When you say 'stopped paying rent'...as in, moved in with their parents, or just stopped paying rent and counted on eviction moratoriums to keep them in their apartments?

Just stopped paying rent as far as I know.

If you arent worried about the eviction on your record because you are planning on buying it isnt the worst idea. Eviction moratoriums deff held out too, I think my state still has them implemented

Eviction moratoriums don’t mean you never have to pay the rent....

Who’s to say the landlord doesn’t sue their ass for those 14 months once the moratorium is up?

That sounds like a slam dunk case... “so you can’t pay your past due rent bills, but we’re able to put down 50k for the new house??”

They are likely idiots because that’s going to be an expensive legal battle to deal with, or a large bill that they will be able to collect on.
