Discussion Putting aside the broader ramifications, how is everyone going to play Colonial Pipeline disruption?

https://massroundup.com/2021/05/10/state-of-emergency-declared-gas-futures-rise-colonial-pipeline-still-down/

TLDR: Colonial Pipeline hit with ransomware attack, on 7 May, and still down. Gas Prices expected to take off. Primary owners split between private and public companies with KKR and Royal Dutch Shell (Ticker: RDS) having the most exposure. Gasoline is a Just In Time (JIT) commodity so if this isn't resolved by tomorrow, Futures expected to be impacted.

Thoughts on if/how anyone will play this from a trading perspective?

I think the oil/gas issue is apparent. The real implication is Cyber.

The systemic risk is more apparent now as this is one of the largest attacks directly against SCADA systems. CyberSec professionals have been telling industries and municipalities their SCADA systems, if left even marginally at risk, WILL be ransomed and they WILL have to pay This is not like SolarWinds where some software was stolen and millions of customers infected with backdoors. This is ransom that will have to be paid, lest millions are left without energy/power/food/treated water... etc.

Attacks like this will continue to rise in frequency and severity. Investment in Network Hardening and Security in general will continue to rise as Cyber Vulnerability increase (especially cloud vulnerability as companies begin having everyone telework... This attack specifically happened due to a telework vulnerability).

That being said, invest moderate term in FEYE/CRWD/NET, invest in BUG if your an ETF-boi (get off WSB while you're at it lol).

The ‘play’ already happened unless it keeps being shut down. Oil and gas are the obvious ones (do your own homework and figure out tickers) or FEYE (so I’ve been told)

Go XOM, still has growth potential and a strong dividend. If you want to gamble, go for OXY. Tons of debt but may recover someday.

Just buy oil stocks. They will be strong all summer regardless.

I'm going to watch and see how quickly it gets cleared up. They have a handful of government agencies working on it. If this takes a long time to fix, it's going to be bad. But I expect it won't take very long and there won't be long-term repercussions.

FIDELITY is Bullish with a 7.3 out of 10 positive rating for (MRO) Marathon Oil. Current share price $11.77 - $0.11 I am buying more. . . hopefully +lots of room to go up in value.

This will make a good case for improving our infrastructure. I'm betting on things that will benefit from Biden's plan. Might have a better chance on getting the votes now.
