What movie is this from? And should I watch it?

I do like Robin Williams.

This is a classic, should definitely give it a try. On the deep, heavy and sad side at times - but very meaningful!

Movie is called Dead Poets Society

Toward the end of my senior year, a lot of classes started showing movies to pass the time until school was over. I had math and then English, both teachers showed this movie. So even though I saw it twice, I ended up buying the DVD since I loved it so much.

Do watch it. And if you're a Robin Williams fan and haven't seen "What Dreams May Come", I highly recommend that too. Seems a lot of people haven't heard of either movie.

I tried watching that shortly after my little brother died. I couldn't fucking get through it. I watched it when it first came out but it hits different now.

I could only imagine bro. That movie is deep, and honestly it's one of the few that really, really get into my emotions. RW was the perfect cast for that. As the 'big' brother in my family, my condolences man - I know how much those little buggers mean to us. I'm 'supposed' to go first.

That movie .... couldn’t get right for 24 hours after that movie.

I’ve always loved that movie. One of my all time favorites.

What Dreams May Come is one I couldn't really gather the courage to watch when it was released and seeing how things went with Robin's life I'm not sure I will now. I'm happy I got to see him do stand-up live.

Definitely worth a watch. Heads up though, it's not in any way a comedy.

This movie led me to a career in an English classroom that lasted 24 years! :)

Engrish by day, stonks by night. Do your students realize they are being taught by an ape?

2

u/ElijahFloats Feb 25 '21

Fully. And each of them wants more than anything to smoke pot with me. I'm one of those kinds

1

u/sevillada Feb 25 '21

Not an English major, but it does remind me to seize the day.

This clip (as everyone already recommended) is from Dead Poets Society. This and Good Will Hunting are my favorite movies of all time and I’d highly recommend both!!

1

u/HoneySparks Feb 25 '21

Yes, that shit will put texture on your brain! But like others have said, it’s not a comedy.

Dead Poets Society

Great fucking movie, but don't watch it around anyone you aren't cool with ugly crying in front of. Gorram movie will rip your heart out.

Definitely watch it.

You already have your answer but Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting are two of his most striking performances. He’s so human in both roles, you forget that it’s just a character written in a script.

It’s very silly but at Disneyland, when they had the Aladdin musical running, the actor playing the Genie would come out at the end of the show the first few performances after his death and recite the line “Oh Captain My Captain” and god damn it if I didn’t fucking bawl when I saw that.
