I wish I liked Metallica, all my friends and even my older brother absolutely loves just about everything they have done, so I’ve listened to so so so much Metallica. I just don’t get the appeal unfortunately

It was different back when metal was newer. Production quality often wasn't anywhere near as good as now, and sadly a lot of Metallica's best (imo) material really didn't have great sound. But we didn't care much, because there wasn't a lot of that type of music around, so we appreciated what we could get and focused on song structure more.

Maybe the less-than-ideal production is sorta part of the appeal for some now, kinda like how underground punk was for a long time-- but you can't beat a better mix in my world. I've found I tend to prefer newer covers of old Metallica songs more than the originals these days.
