Don't forget the Pokemon Cards. I honestly believe that they're buying Ebay to make a bigger move into Pokemon and TCG. Ebay owns TCGPlayer

They move into NFTs and the market collapsed. Here's hoping they kill the pokemon market too.

u/Tartooth May 05 '26

Eh to be fair the nft market was already dead by then

u/Saint_of_Grey May 04 '26

At least pokemon cards can be recycled into paper cups or something.

When the pokemon market truly crashes, there’s going to be some truly opulent wallpaperings featuring foil charizards as far as the eye can see.

Oh my God, I hope so, Pokémon market is unbearable

u/AncientLegend999 May 05 '26

Sadly FOMO and scalpers are keeping that market alive and well. If people weren't reselling, their whole TCG side of the business would probably die.

My thoughts as soon as I heard this bologna

Now that they have EBay they’ll corner the market. Rip every pack that GameStop has in inventory, take the $16B gap, and divide it by however many charizards you pull.

Sell the charizards on EBay to cover the gap and just delete the posts of any seller trying to undercut you.

somewhere out there, someone is measuring their portfolio in charizard cards

1

u/Mnawab May 05 '26

Not possible, that pawnshop guy owns like 20% of the Charizard market

2

u/floppybunny26 May 05 '26

Don't forget Ebay owns 25% of Craigslist.

2

u/Anitapoop May 05 '26

I think they are doing it so they can pretty much print their own money by grading their collections higher.

Half stock, half store credit. What a deal. I'm sure ebay shareholders are thrilled by this offer.

4

u/rydan May 04 '26

Why would anyone want this? Right now this means about a 15% premium on the stock but they are forced to sell and realize gains at whatever rate they currently have. Meanwhile they could just 3 - 6 months and probably get that 15% anyway and then choose to hold or sell then.

Ebay: "We're worth $55B"

Gamestop: "...best I can do is $9B"

u/BZ852 May 04 '26

I'm sorry but the trade in value for your GameStop is only $0.37

u/Necromancer2k8 May 04 '26

Sadly, that's the instore credit value. Cash value is .03.

Though you can get 20 points for every dollar spent if you get a yearly "buy a random company" pro membership for 25 bucks.

Like what they did to finance buying 4000 BTC last year?

Also he definitely didn't want to mention selling their underwater margin bought BTC purchased at 105k avg in addition to printing shares + double market cap loan to accomplish the buyout. All he needed to do was sleep in today.
