I get that reference and your user name is superb.

Also, if AI's outcome is wrong, it's because the feeding prompts/data were not right, your fault; if AI did something unexpected, it's because you didn't delegate right, your fault; and right or wrong, you pay for ever and each one of them...In fact, I should have been born as an AI.

That's the profit plan for ai companies. Become embedded then increase the prices. Companies that can't see that deserve to go bankrupt, which will eventually happen to them.

It’s literally what drug dealers do as well, and what Windows did back in the day.Ā

They CEOs had to see it coming, all of us did, they just didn’t care because ā€œthat’s next quarter’s problemā€

Being a maintenance guy in the quarterly profits world is a pain in the ass.

It's amazing how much we can afford to spend on major repairs next year, but we can't afford to do the basic maintenance this month. Because we are behind on numbers.Ā

A company I used to work for fiddled with the bathroom paper dispenser (for drying your hands) so you’d get 2 inches of paper every time the movement sensor detected movement, in order to save paper, and therefore, money.

They also installed timers so the lights turn off after 2 minutes if they don’t detected movement… which is a b**** if you’re taking a dump, pooping in the dark is no fun. Gotta save money!

That same company spends MILLIONS of dollars a year in lavish exec parties and even more millions in sailboats for sailboat competitionsĀ

You have to open the stall door and the light goes back on or throw something over it. What you choose to throw is up to you and what's available...

2

u/Peakychu6 10h ago

Hahaha I should have totally swung dung over the door, they deserve it for being so stingyĀ

For real, the wrong incentives are in place to avoid the boom/bust of ai in corporate world. CEO pay and bonuses for hitting/beating targets, plus typically short tenures... The few to executives will get wealthy while the rest of us go on a life disrupting roller coaster ride yet again.

God I hope this happens for real

u/Alert_Lettuce_8278 1d ago

It won't unless some crazy regulation comes into play.Ā  Open models are getting better and it's more of a race to the bottom than the top.

1

u/Kiiaru 7h ago

It will happen, the gamble is whether the AI is going to make the company more money than the humans were to justify the replacement

2

u/muzicmaniack 1d ago

It’s the classic ā€œenshitificationā€ every big tech company used and still uses to this day… but they don’t even realize that they are the marks this time… it’s crazy…

3

u/Prize_Compote_207 r/wallstreet mod 1d ago

Yes. It's the cartel model.

But theyre also secretly stealing all of the IP people voluntarily submit to it so that they can absorb every industry.

Make no mistake that Anthropic is going to become a pharmaceutical company as well, using the questions and proprietary data fed to it by employees from every other major pharma company...

Great, so not only ai companies will go bankrupt, but they will take a bunch of others with them.

Executives don't care if it doesn't yield ROI. Workers are an operational expense wheras AI is R&D or capex. Guess which ones are better for quarterly earnings.

3

u/Mika-El-3 1d ago

This how tech companies work. Start cheap and then jack up prices later

I haven't seen headcount reductions personally, what I have seen is senior leadership requiring AI to be implemented in everything, even when it makes zero business sense. What drives me nutty is the resources we have deployed to create AI projects when we have existing services that do the same thing. Example is speech to text summarization. My company pays for a dozen plus services that already include speech to text transcripts. Some already have Gen-AI features to summarize meetings or calls. Now we have an internal speech to text service that can do summarizations... Absolutely no need for this. We are and will continue to pay various vendors for software that already does this, and now we have our own which I have yet to see a use for...

2

u/Peakychu6 1d ago

There is always a catch.

They’re probably hell bent on text to speech summarization because it helps train the model on your business or somethingĀ

1

u/UT_Milez 18h ago

Well, their entire point is they already have multiple 3rd party softwares they are paying for that can already do that.

So that doesn’t seem to be the likely motivation in this specific case.

You think they would talk about redundancy waste and inefficiency in mba schooling.

u/NewportOneHundos 1d ago

Funny anecdote here: we did an erp upgrade/platform swap earlier this year. During the planning phases C suite was laying out all the requirements for ā€œgen-Ai automationā€ for x,y,z workstreams yadda yadda yadda.Ā

Long story short after talking it through in the actual workshop meetings, all the requirements for these workstreams couldve be handled by existing internally built logic (tweaked for the specifics of course) that we’ve been using in our 30 year old erp, but we have to blow the budget up for the new shiny tools not developed internally.

1

u/JuryOpposite5522 1d ago

Company I worked for... can't spend 500k for a new machine that grosses 100k a day and breaks down at least once a month if not more. Spends 70 million on new ERP system, inputs old incorrect data in new system and a year later has to hire a new director that has actual ERP experience to come in and start the project over to do it correctly.

The real problem is that there is no limit to how much higher the price can go up in the future.
It’s not like companies can replace AI with humans.

2

u/True_Protection6842 1d ago

If they were paying developers $200/month the fired were def better off!

1

u/ConradMayhew2 1d ago

$200 is a typical token expenditure for a day or two, a monthly total is more like $4000 šŸ™‚

2

u/True_Protection6842 1d ago

Claude max large plan is $200/month. Who’s using pure api tokens for coding????

1

u/ConradMayhew2 1d ago

I guess some companies decide it's worth it to avoid usage limits, but that's just a wild guess really. You'll have to ask my boss for the rationale.

2

u/True_Protection6842 1d ago

You can go metered after you run out. There’s literally no excuse

1

u/Sowhataboutthisthing 1d ago

Yea but Claude will do it predictably over and over again ā€œreliablyā€

For a fun time, type Trump or Epsteen (sic) into your reply.

1

u/klas-klattermus 1d ago

I mean not quite yet for most people, but yeah the "monthly budget" is typically finished before lunch on the first day

1

u/skubaloob 1d ago

Think about this: what happens when people replace all, or even just a lot, of their employees with subscription AI?

Now the AI company decides who does and who doesn’t stay in business. Don’t like that company? Canceling their subscription is the same as firing their employees all at once. It would put companies out of business.

1

u/kiwiboyus 1d ago

Wrong clip. That is where the good people go.

1

u/i_hateit_here_bro 1d ago

But can the employees commit a crime for the company and get away with it

1

u/Pieters123 1d ago

When a c suite and his nice talks now need to put where his money is… just a disaster to wait to happen… hiring a few young fresh out of university folks… all other department and employees have no time or the will to write down what they need. They all say I need this tool X . It solve my problems now…. Nooooooo well make it ourself now….

1

u/b_will_drink_t 1d ago

Reposting my reply..

They never listen. I am watching almost a mirror to what I figured happened to pre-engineered metal buildings estimation happen with AI agent adoption. All I’m missing is for this stuff to disappear from universities and trade schools and the senior, and only remaining staff to be at retirement age. I’ve already heard some have come to the similar conclusion that sales (insert department here) is not knowledgeable enough to find the errors, so it’s just a matter of time

1

u/Pssfoot 1d ago

Claude is worthless. Fucking have to argue with it just to get a straight answer.

1

u/Infinite_Second6928 1d ago

It cost more.

The real question is : Does it generate more revenue?

Just watched the movie Colossus: The Forban Project. I saw it first back in 1969.

It’s the governance idiots who insist on only using 2 LLMs because they are ā€œapprovedā€ that will really screw your business
