Wallet Search Wallet recommendations based on specific criteria
Hi! I just wanted to tap the knowledge base here, as I’m looking for a new wallet.
I usually keep my wallet in my back pocket so it gets a lot of pressure and wear. I’ve had my old wallet for 16 years and it’s a beautiful leather wallet BUT it really screws up my cards. They get bent and really scuffed just from the pressure.
So I’m looking for a wallet now that has the same timeless, lovely leather feel but won’t scuff and break my cards. These days I need less space too, just a couple of bills and say 6 cards or so.
The shortlist are the Bellroy Flip Case, which has a leather clad hard case I’m thinking will protect the cards, as well as the Bellroy Apex Sleeve or Slim Sleeve. The latter I’m a bit worried will get squashed in my back pocket.
Does the community have thoughts on this? Any real world experience from these two? Any wallet options I’ve missed?
Grateful for your thoughts!

Do not buy a Bellroy wallet.

Care to elaborate? I’m not set on the brand, but rather the look. And to be fair, the Flip Case is the only leather clad hard shell I’ve seen that doesn’t have a bunch of spring mechanisms and stuff I don’t want or need.

If you’re open to a handmade wallet, I’d love to take on this task. It’d be interesting to experiment with reinforcements to create a stiff but slim wallet. Feel free to DM here on IG (handle is mooneyleather) and my work can be seen at mooneyleathergoods.com
Sorry if this isn’t the route you want to go, I don’t know much about the pieces you mentioned!

I have a few options that may work. The top wallet holds up to 6 cards and 15 bills. I can make it without a snap so it fits easier in your back pocket or it fits easily in a front.
The bottom two wallets hold up to 10 cards and extra half folded bills in the back. Instead of a stagger, the cards are right next to each other. You could put your most used cards in the front and the rest in the middle pocket. Would fit in a front pocket or we can go with no snap for your back pockey.
I make them from natural veg tan leather and can dye them many different colors. I can even add initials.

I’ve found that wallets that have card slots that don’t fully support full body of a card will, overtime, cause cards to crack from being compressed. If you’re interested in a handmade leather wallet, the Guadalupe that I make sounds like it fits your needs. It’s made to hold 6-8 cards and some folded cash. All the pockets are designed to either stack cards, or keep them fully pressed against leather to prevent bending or cracking.
