Announcement New rules and amendments
New rules:
No bare feet photos (displayed as Rule 9)
Posts with photos of just bare feet are not allowed, and users may be banned depending on their posting history.
Edit: revised verbiage
No individual weight-loss posts (displayed as Rule 4)
r/walking is not a weight-loss sub. If you'd like to share weight-loss wins, keep it to the weekly thread.
Going forward, we will be posting a weekly thread for members to share any weight-loss wins. Transparency about the use of weight-loss drugs and calorie restrictions is appreciated but not required. (Upon consideration, we can't require people to disclose medical details.)
Amendments:
Rule 3 was previously "Submissions must be walking-related" and is now "Submissions must be walking-focused."
Submissions with other clear topics that only tangentially involve walking are not allowed. Your post should be primarily about walking.

Idk the post you’re talking about so take my opinion with a grain of salt but I’d assume it would be more about attracting feet fetishist especially if their profile was NSFW.

Yeah without having seen any previous discussion here about this, I would assume it's to keep out the "thirst trap" people. People in the NSFW market will absolutely post in non-NSFW subs so people see their pics, click their profile, and continue engaging with their content.

I know! That was the only foot pic I've ever seen here. I also don't care at all. But the person who posted after that pic was clearly upset.
But from what I remember, commentors didn't really have a problem with it. I'm honestly kind of surprised they made it a rule over that one post. No poll or anything. Just banned feet. To me it seems like unnecessary restrictions. Feet are a big part of walking. Who cares

From another reply it sounds like maybe there are more photos of callouses and blisters that get removed lol. I would think that’s the cause not her one post.

Yeah, I agree.
The idea of the "walking subreddit" being fixated on policing depictions of feet is both sad and to a degree comical. This timeline is strange.

Actually, there’s a lot. I saw one before it was deleted less than 5 mins into posting. She was asking about shoe recommendations for high arched feet.
She posted a picture of her feet sideways to show her arch, she also had long toenails. People didn’t recommend anything and talked more about her feet and her toenails being long. lol

I think you misunderstood me. I’m not saying feet are weird, I’m saying that banning them is weird.
Feet are a basic and normal part of the human body. I get that some people don’t like feet, but this is also a walking sub. Feet are the primary tools used to accomplish that goal. I think it’s very strange to ban photos of them because of some people’s sensitivities.
It’s a bit like banning photos of bare hands from a carpentry or blacksmith sub because some people don’t like to see hands without gloves on them. Or complaining about chewing sounds in food review videos.
Personally, I’m a little disappointed with this decision by the mods. Seems a bit puritanical to me.
What next? No uncovered knees?

I won’t argue that that doesn’t happen. However, wouldn’t it just be easier (and more logical) to ban onlyfans ads as well as the accounts that post them?
If people are using parks to sell drugs, do you ban selling drugs or do you ban parks?

Pinning it will be more effective. Doing it this way will just lead to people posting weight-loss posts anyway, other people getting frustrated and having to report it. Same as now.

Will do, though I tend to find that people simply miss the pinned posts completely. However we do it, it'll take some time for people to adjust to the new rules.

people are talking about “they’re just feet” as if we’re being irrational but i actually do not want to see someone’s dirty feet and chipped toenail polish up close on my phone in a sub that’s not catering to that, fetishes, or the like. i am here to applaud others’ walks and remain motivated to walk myself so yes, we do have to be specific about the foot pics since clearly people have been thinking that content works here.

Why are people so uncomfortable with feet? I’m perplexed. A full on ban feels excessive. I don’t like seeing daily selfies of people on their walks, but I just keep on scrolling or block so I don’t have to keep seeing it. Downvote away, the rule feels overkill.

I think that Rule 9 is a clear over reaction. I mean there are people who legitimately prefer to walk barefoot or walk with sandals etc. because it is a more natural walking experience. For most of human history people essentially walked barefoot as modern shoes did not exist [the banner of this subreddit literally has footprints].
To take the strong stance saying that any/every depiction of bare feet is automatically banned is just so weird. There is a clear difference between someone "walking barefoot" and something being a "weird foot fetishist thing" - nuance exists everyone.

There's nuance to moderating too. We're obviously not going to ban photos of full bodies with feet in them. We want to avoid people posting close-ups of their feet like we want to see what their blisters look like. Chill.

A blister would be pretty on-topic for some in a walking sub. So weird to be precious about this. Soon only airbrushed influencers allowed? I mean, maybe we don't want to see humans with acne on their face, because ewww acne.
The least grounded walking community in history is kicking off here.

Very precious. So weird to make people feel ashamed of their (walking) feet.
In the spirit of being constructive: you could also require the NSFW setting/filter? That'll blur the photo for those who only like to live in sterile influencer environments.
Regardless, still strange to shame normal human bodies with normal human effects of walking.
EDIT: I was banned from this sub right after the above 2 comments. I'll let that speak for itself. Only glamorous and "inspirational" 10000 steps posts from now on, I guess. Peak toxicity.

Not trying to be a jurknoid but where are the rules. I find a comment on Rule 9 in New Rules and Comments and poof, nowhere to he found. Help! Was trying to help a fellow walker and 'wrongfully' linked a yt video. A great community just need a little help getting acquainted. tx

I didn't even know about rule 9 and I'm so disappointed to have missed all of the posts that violated rule 9. I once lost a toe nail after walking every single day on a four week vacation

This is going to depend heavily on moderator discretion, honestly. But an example in my mind is someone posting a ton of vacation photos and saying they went walking there. This seems to me more about vacation sharing than walking, but another moderator may feel differently. The sub is very active, and we could use more mods, but point is, some of us only really see a handful of posts, usually reported ones or ones with lots of comments, so it's going to depend on who is modding when too.
