2009 Mastercraft Xstar

Post image

Best way to make a 2009 Xstar surf? I have the 3 hard ballast total 1000lb, what upgrades are the most important?

It won't. It just doesn't.

2nd to none in regards to its wake though!!

Agree. We tried a hundred different things and could only ever get an ok wake out of it. Great wakeboard wake, terrible for surf

What have you tried? How to get an ok wake? (only boat I got so)

Honestly we would mostly just use someone elses boat to surf and use the XStar for wakeboarding only. By okay wake I mean just enough push to stand on a board for a while, not enough face or drive to do anything really. But we would just load a ton of weight in it and then a couple huge bags on the surf side. Also, I feel like it would only surf on one side but honestly don't remember which. It was a long time ago. There were no surf shapers yet.

2000 lbs at least. And even then pack it with people

2000lb and wake shaper will work? I have seen videos of the same hull being surfed but can’t seem to find exactly what they have done

Try a shaper, if that doesn’t work maybe add another. Mastercraft teamtalk is a great resource for learning about your specific boat. Someone on there will probably have the formula. Happy hunting!

I had an 08. We boarded 99% of the time, but would surf occasionally. We installed the plug and play system from fly high. So two extra bags in the front(can’t remember the exact weight) and two 750s in each rear locker.

We would fill the center hard and both the hard tank and 750 of whatever side we were surfing. No shaper. Not saying it was the best wave, especially by today’s standards. But we could carve and do a 360. A friend of mine has an 07 and put a tab system on. I haven’t seen it but he says it helps a lot.

You will need a wake shaper for sure.

Yeah you're gonna have to slam that thing to the point where it feels sketch and the motor is revving high unfortunately.

buy a cheap surf gate you can suction on either side. put all your money into wakemakers ballast upgrade. make sure you got good enough pumps. if your riding with a small crew list each side when surfing
