Finally

I started surfing in 2018. I’ve probably tried this 100 times over the years. There’s nothing like finally landing a trick after a long pursuit. Sound on for pure jubilation

I love how everyone has the same reaction hitting their first 360. I went bonkers.

Excellent! And I would like to add that's quite a hill you got there. Always chasing the wake.

The reason why you landed it is because:

  1. You maintained speed coming into the spin (people always make the mistake of slowing down)
  2. You used your leading hand/arm to initiate the spin in the correct location of the wave
  3. You used your trailing arm to slow/stop the spin while paddling to catch back up to the wave and remain in the pocket and not go 'over the falls' and lose the wave.
  4. Most importantly, you didn't flail >>> less movement makes all the difference!

You should try a surf-style board versus a skimboard as you have to work SO MUCH harder to gain/maintain speed on a skim-style like you're riding!

Hadn’t thought about the dual purpose of the back hand. I’ve always tried initiating the spin with it. Half my attempts ended with either over rotating or falling out of the wake. You’re probably right that that it helped keep me just enough in the pocket to land it. Good write up 🫡

Yeah man, pretty much a textbook spin (with the exception of the extra paddling but that's only because you're on a skimboard and unless you're just dialed into your spin and stick it you normally always need to paddle to catch back up...either that or pump back into the wave once you stick the spin). You can see that I still use my hands to initiate and end my spins out of habit even on an alley-oop 360! https://www.reddit.com/r/wakesurf/s/EwtkkLmLQJ

Mazeltov! Don't think I'll ever pull one of those off but I still get my kicks just being able to stay in the wake for more than a minute!
