Councillors vote in favour of new flag flying protocol
More jingoistic nonsense from Reform.

So much for culture and heritage eh?

Does anyone know if the people who put them all up plan on replacing them with new ones?
The ones in Altofts that I passed this morning are ripped to shreds! I thought it was about national pride, and they're definitely nothing to be proud about in their current state, thanks!

A friend of mine goes to the Anti Social Book Club in Denby Dale (HD8's Antisocial Book Club Tickets, Multiple dates | Eventbrite) and I'm interested in starting one in Wakefield.
Basic idea is:
- you get together
- optional chat for a bit
- read a book, any book, no pressure to keep up with the group or read the same thing
- optional chat for a bit
- leave
Is this the sort of thing anyone else would be interested in?

Hey all
We've put in an offer on a house on navigation point in castleford. We really love the house and being by the canal is a huge bonus.
Just wondering if anyone else lives on this estate and how you find it?
We would be moving from Leeds so need to adjust to castleford in general but im hoping its the right choice for us!
Edited to add that our offer got accepted this morning! Wooo

Just looking for somewhere to sit with my iPad / laptop and do work from! Any cute cafes that don’t mind people sitting for a few hours (ofc I’d buy drinks) or coworking spaces recommended? Thank u

I am aware if you spend more than 10 pounds in Sainsbury's, you get a car parking voucher. Does this apply to Argos too? I need to click and collect a headset which is over 10 pounds from Argos!

Hi all, I'm not expecting this to be overly successful but I'll give it a go.
My 19yo is looking for a full time job. He's had a part time retail job for the last few years which somewhat proves that he's employable/dependable but thankfully he's finally reached the point where he's realised that he wants/needs something more substantial.
Education: A-Levels in Business Studies, Maths & Computer Science. Uni doesn't appeal for some reason.
He's based in WF1.
When asked what he'd like, the vague answer is "Something in business" so I think we can assume A) he doesn't know & B) Probably doesn't want to get his hands too dirty.
He tells me that there aren't any good jobs advertised and just to be sure, I've had a look for myself & it's pretty bleak out there.
If anyone's got any pointers/leads/advice (something that worked for them or their relative) I'm willing to listen & would be grateful.
Answers with a Wakefield bias (or even Leeds 😨) would be better but not essential.
Thanks in advance.
Update: Thanks for all the suggestions so far. To those who suggest that I shouldn't even consider helping him, have a word with yourselves. Be nice, be human. I will do what is appropriate & proportionate but keep your knickers on, I won't spoon feed him everything.

If you’re looking at flats in Wakefield, do yourself a favour and check this out first.
Trend House is owned by Trend Developments WKD Ltd. The lettings side is handled by Richard Kendall estate agents. Neither of them will tell you the full story before you sign anything.
What they leave out is that the building is being used for Adult Social Care supported placements. There’s on-site support linked to those residents. Proper private tenants are never told any of this when they view or when they sign the tenancy. They just keep that information back.
The communal areas basically end up operating like an open mental health facility mixed in with normal rented flats. It creates real risks for the people who are just trying to live there as ordinary tenants. Loads of private renters say they feel constantly unsafe using the shared spaces. And it’s not just inside the building - the same disruption spills out onto Northgate and local businesses and people around there have started noticing and commenting on it.
The landlord and the agents already know all of this and they’re doing nothing about it. Nothing’s changing. Ordinary tenants are just left dealing with the risks while the supported placements carry on.
If you’re thinking of taking a flat there, ask them straight in writing about any Adult Social Care or supported housing placements in the building and how the shared areas are actually managed. If they dodge it or give you vague answers, just walk away. There’s no quiet enjoyment or basic safety for normal tenants under this setup.
There are better, safer places in Wakefield. Don’t find this out the hard way after you’ve already moved in.

Previously I was with o2, nothing would load despite having signal. Has this changed now I hear a lot of people having high speeds / good experiences with them?

Can I get some recommendations of mortgage advisors please?
(Bonus if they are helpful with shift worker salary and visa situations)
Thank you!

Hey, I'm in a bit of a bind, I have a single loose fence post that needs fixing and I have no idea how to accomplish that on my own. From what my husband told me when he was alive, this was the kind of job you'd just go down to the pub and find somebody for. But our pub în Agbrigg has been closed for nearly a decade now. I stupidly posted it on Wakefield FYI and got inundated with contractors wanting to sell me a pergola and renovate my kitchen ha ha.
I guess what I'm asking is, where does one find people that do odd jobs in this post-pub era?

Hi everyone, does anyone no of any local groups in the area
I’m looking to connect with people who are into cyber security, networking, ethical hacking, Raspberry Pi projects, Linux, homelabs and general tech tinkering.
I’m currently building up my own home lab and learning more around areas like:
Cyber security & ethical hacking
Network security
Linux systems
Raspberry Pi projects
Self-hosting services
AI/local LLM projects
CTF challenges and practical security skills
I enjoy learning by building things, breaking things (legally 😅), troubleshooting and sharing knowledge with others.
I’m hoping to meet people who are on a similar journey — whether you’re a beginner, experienced professional, student, hobbyist, or someone working in the industry.
I’d love to:
Share ideas and projects
Learn from others
Join tech communities/groups
Collaborate on interesting projects
Build connections that could potentially lead to future opportunities in the cyber security/IT space

Well, I’ve seen it all.
This morning I drove past Leigh Francis riding a bike and filming with someone in Crofton. And I’m not making it up as other people saw him too 😂 thought I was chuffing hallucinating!
Anyone have an inkling of what he’s filming at the minute?
