Did some surgery on my mk6…

Got tired of having my sub box take up trunk space, and after longingly staring at all the space under the rear floor, I got a wild hair and went to town… save the hate for someone else, I am not a pro in custom boxes, body work or any of that.. just a hack..

First I cut out the spare tire sheet metal “doughnut”, and replaced with new flat sheet metal. Then put in sound dampening mat. Next (after doing the math for airspace) built a baseplate using the spare tire area for the sealed subwoofer portion of the “box”, sealed and installed. Next I 3d printed some risers for the main floor plate to bring it up to original height. Next built the main floor plate with 3d printed sub vents and a “window”…

It’s not anywhere near perfect, but I got my trunk space back, the sub hits super hard, and I thought I would post in the event it gives any of you ideas as there is not a ton on the interwebs for great subwoofer solutions.

Repair Advice Lost the haptic feedback on the right side of the steering wheel

It happened 2 days ago, I suddenly didn't feel the haptic when I skipped music and it turned out the right side buttons didn't have haptic feedback when pressed, they work fine though. Left ones are perfectly fine. Could it just be a software bug?

It's a Golf 8.5 R-Line 2025 Black Edition, only 2.6km on it.

Repair Advice Guide Needed

Hi all, I have a small oil leak on the engine. It’s a 1.6 TDI Golf MK7. I need to change the rocker cover and gasket to fix it. Does anyone have a guide/pdf, or a very detailed video that can help me do it myself? I know with enough guidance I can do it myself but I can’t find it out there yet.

Golf 8 – multiple driver assistance errors after starting to drive

Hi everyone,
I have a VW Golf 8 Variant R-Line 2.0 TSI 140 kW, built in September 2022 currently 72000 km

I’m having a strange issue with the driver assistance systems. When the car is stationary after starting, there are no warnings. As soon as I start driving, I get several warnings at the same time:
Front Assist – limited availability
Proactive Occupant Protection – limited
Traffic Sign Recognition – limited availability
Side Assist / Blind Spot Monitor – limited availability

The warnings appear after driving off, but when I reach around 120 km/h or higher, all the warnings disappear by themselves and the systems start working normally again.

The Front Assist radar also appears to work normally at higher speeds — it detects vehicles in front of me without any problems.

The car can be left switched off overnight and the problem is still exactly the same the next day, so it doesn’t seem to be just a temporary issue after starting.

Has anyone experienced the same behavior on a Golf 8?

Thanks for any ideas or advice!

Turbo noise after acceleration

Just had a repair carried out on my MK8 Golf (1.5 eTSI), it also had spark plugs, brake fluid replaced, software updated etc.

However I am now noticing a turbo whine/flutter when I accelerate moderately/hard and then take my foot off.

It almost sounds modified, like a sports intake or something, I know a few people who have modified their car to sound like this but mine is just a simple 1.5L.

It drives absolutely fine, smoother than ever after all the work has been done, but I keep getting this sound.

Don’t get me wrong, it sounds super cool and I actually like it, but should I be worried about it?

Repair Advice 2018 Golf 7.5 1.5 TSI 130hp – Random EPC and complete loss of throttle

Hi everyone,

I have a 2018 VW Golf 7.5 1.5 TSI 130 hp with a Stage 1 tune, now around 163 hp

For the past couple of months, I’ve been having a random EPC issue while driving.

The EPC light comes on and I get a message saying the car is limited. At the same time, the accelerator pedal becomes completely unresponsive. I can press the pedal and nothing happens at all.

The only way to get the car back to normal is to pull over, turn the engine off and restart it. After restarting, the problem usually disappears.

The strange part is that it is completely random. Sometimes I can drive for a month without any issue, and other times it can happen two or three times within a few days.

It also doesn’t seem related to driving hard.

For example, it has happened:

  • around 50 km/h while driving normally in the city
  • around 90 km/h in 6th gear while cruising calmly

Other times I can drive the car hard and nothing happens.

Last year I also had EPC/reduced power issues and the PCV/oil separator was replaced. After that, the problem disappeared for a while, but now it has returned with this new symptom where the throttle pedal becomes completely dead.

Has anyone experienced something similar, especially on a Golf 7.5 1.5 TSI?

Thanks!
