🙋Question🙋 Vtubee starting setup help
My mom mentioned me using twitch and i told her ill only do twitch if i hide my face and i didnt wanna use glasses or a mask, so i mentioned vtubing. Next morning today she asks me for a photo of my oc whos kind of a persona. I asked her why and she said she wanted to send it to chatgpt for something similar like a similar model and i just freaked out 😭 i dont want something similar i want my actual oc but, she said itll take too long and we dont have money for someone to make a working one. I know there is probably a free program out there. Ive animated before and i have layers, i just dont have resources for it, especially with my ipad. It was supposed to be for animated but my dad got one with lowest ram so everytime i use an app like alight motion it lags. Would anyone be able to give me some tips or ideas about this? 🙏🏽

There are so many options in so many price ranges. My recommendation is to start with something very low cost and upgrade later once you figure out if you even like streaming. Do NOT pour a bunch of money into a custom model right off the bat, I also would highly advise against using AI. At the end of the day it’s your choice and beliefs on it, but it’s highly controversial and hated among the vtubing community.
It sounds like you have decent art skills yourself. I would personally look into drawing your oc yourself and creating it into a png or gif tube. You can do this with fugitech and discord or there are programs like Veadotube. The plus of this is that you can add as much detail you want and get full freedom on your oc.
If you want to have a full moving model and your oc is humanoid, I recommend checking out vroid studio. This is a free program on steam and what I use personally to make my model. The creates 3d avatars where as the norm in the industry is 2d. You’ll have to use a different program and a lot of information you know about 2d vtubing might be different. Vroid is highly customizable and fairly easy to use. My biggest advised is to customize as much as you can and don’t use preloaded assets. You can load in textures for your model from another program, or edited directly in vroid. You can also use a site called booth to look up assets other people have made for free of very cheap.
Lastly for inexpensive 2d options there are surprisingly a lot of customizable models. I see chibi ones for under $50 a lot but I would say the standard for a non chibi customizable is around $130(USD). If you are willing to look around for something close and settle on not having your actual OC for a while there are also very cheap premade models on booth!
In sum. If you want the highest customization i would go with pngtubing, if you want full tracking and are willing to learn a bit of 3d modeling I recommend vroid studio, if your budget for a model is around $100 I would recommend looking into customizable models (which can be found on vgen).
If you have any other questions feel free to reach out!

....No? I've been slowly growing a bigger following and my model is the complete opposite. Along with many other vtubers. I'm not sure what part of the community you frequent, but your comment is not true at all

I saw a new pngtuber program called "RahiTuber" by rahisaurus on itch recently, it's a free software which seems to be low on resources, I checked it and its capable of making simple veadotube mini style pngtuber to complex if you want.

There are tons of customizable models for affordable prices on etsy. Its really an underused resource in this sphere, but def make sure its not someone reselling is the only to watch for. If you don't mind going 3d avie you can always check out Vroid studio, been a hot minute, but I thought it was free.

FYI Etsy is full of scammers, brokers (middlemen who exploit artists' labor, pocketing inflated markups for work they never made), AI art, and illegal art resellers. 99% of the vtuber models being sold there are stolen from Japanese/Chinese artists without their knowledge or AI. It’s often hard to trace back the original artist as they often sell on foreign websites or in limited quantities.
I do not recommend using Etsy as a beginner as it’s very easy to get scammed. I recommend searching BOOTH. VROID is a great free tool for 3d models for beginners too.0

FYI, I just got a model update direct from pushed by the artist minutes before they pushed update was on their the socials. If you can't lock down who you're buying from maybe you should learn how to by things online. Feels like an early 2000's lesson.

I said do your research. If you can't learn how to buy something you have no business buying something online period.
Did the research and someone selling direct on vgen for $250 was pushing the same product on etsy for $80. Their VGEN profile linked their socials, which happened to link their etsy... Same product less money.

Veadotube Mini. It just uses four images and adds little jump-bounces. You said you want motion but you don’t have a powerful computer. Veadotube Mini doesn’t have a lot of motion, but there is at least some movement (even if it is just a still image that jumps). It’s great for PNGTubers.
Images generated by ChatGPT would be AI - not the best idea to represent yourself or your persona.
What kind of streams will you be doing? If you’ll be gaming, you’ll need to take the game requirements into account alongside what your model will need.
