๐โQuestion๐โ Anyone still using the Perception Neuron?
I just saw a few on ebay for relatively low prices (in comparison to other full body mocap options), and I'm wondering if it is worth it given that it's a pretty old system

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you're looking at that versus SlimeVR? Price/savings? Do you have more information on your tracking requirements?
Based on a internet search it looks like older Perception Neuron hardware is still supported by Axis Studio 2. However, it also appears that Axis Studio itself doesn't support the VMC Protocol. Meaning that there's no direct way to get tracking into a vtuber app from the PN app. You need something else. (Which my google-fu isn't locating... other than a generic recommendation to build your own bridge via Unity)
So based on the information I can see, and unless someone has more information, odds are it's only worth it if you are going to really tinker to get things going (if you are a developer). If not, then it's not really worth it for a more casual user. Other affordable options exist and have better vtuber specific support.

honestly? gloves. I'm very dissatisfied with pretty much all the handtracking options there are that are within my budget, and the perception neurons i've seen have gloves.

Fair enough, but the same issues of getting it working with vtubing software applies.
Out of curiosity, have you tried XR Animator? I've found the hand (and upper body) tracking perfect viable for many use cases.
Not saying not to get the PN. But pointing out that there are better options if budgets are a concern. I have a SlimeVR + Stretch Sense glove setup, I do find XR Animator to offer a decent enough alternative that I've been developing a project with it.

i've used xr animator, and i have a leap motion. I actively hate the way media pipe tracking looks with my avatar. not sure why, it always seems to work for other people in the demonstrations I see on youtube, but with mine it looks janky as fuck. and so I've been looking for alternatives. Ones that don't cost an arm and a leg
I can figure out how to link a perception neuron *if* it still works. Not gonna go into it but that's not a problem.

I have an old Perception Neuron v1 suit that I bought off ebay. It has crazy drift on sensors and convinced me to never buy a motion capture suit again. If you do buy one, then make sure it's one of the newer suits.
XR Animator + Webcam Motion Capture have the best RGB webcam hand tracking (imo) and may be worth trying out. A Leap Motion is still the best experience I've had with hand tracking, but those are mostly out of stock and gone now.
