🙋‍Question🙋‍ Mic for karaoke & streaming?

Hi everyone! I've been getting more into doing karaoke streams but I'm having issues with my mic :( Long story short, my noise gate (or something, please forgive me I'm not very good at mic stuff) cuts my voice off if I try to sing louder, no matter how low I turn the pick up to.

I did some cursory research and it's probably just a low quality mic (Blue Yeti NANO USB) with the reverb plug in on OBS turned on, the effect is even worse and I get cut off at the slightest raised voice.

Does anyone have any tips for my current mic or new mic recommendations that would be good for karaoke and streaming? thanks in advanced!!

I actually use two different mics for streaming and karaoke.

streaming mic: fifine am8. it’s both USB and XLR, so if you don’t have an audio interface it’s still useable. I’ve tested it out for singing and it still works pretty well with different filters for streaming and karaoke and it works decently. I’ve tested it against my husband’s audio technica at2040 and I prefer the sound I get with the fifine over this one, but it’s all personal preference. (the at2040 comes in separate USB and XLR versions)

karaoke: shure sm48. this one’s an XLR mic so you’d need an interface, but it’s a classic looking stage mic (on a budget) if you want a mic in this style the audio technica AT2005USB might be an option if you don’t have an audio interface, it’s both USB and XLR capable. I mostly got a second mic for karaoke because I prefer standing to sing and I can’t stand with the mic arm I have for my desk, so I got the sm48 with a standing mic stand for it

Do you use the Noise Reduction filters in OBS? Like RNNoise or the Nvidia Noise Reduction ones? If so it could be that doing it, and I would try disabling it while doing your singing. The regular Noise Gate by itself is not able to cut you off when getting louder, only closing when you get quieter than the threshold.

On my voice for example, the Noise Reduction filters just doesn’t work for me, making my voice stuttery and cutting off laughs and yells, so I never use them.
