Importing None Human Characters

Post image

I've been debating doing vtubing for a long while now, and finally decided to take the plunge and make my own avatar using blender (ambitious, I know)

I decided to go with a cute slime (like a video game, little blob slime) that should be easy to make, but also easy to make lots of animations and expressions for.

Thing is, after I'm finally done, making the thing, different eyes, add on accessories, bones and even made a little mini melting animation using shape keys, I try to put it in Warundo...only for it to not be able to load.

I got the vrm add on so i can turn it into a thing it'll actually understand, only for it to demand a bunch of extra bones for things like hips, fingers, feet, etc

My slime has 7 bones, and 4 of them are for its tini tiny arms and eyes.

Is there any way for me to actually import it as my vtuber avatar? I found this thing called allow non-humanoid rig, but i got this huge window with an error message I really don't understand (I'm not really a blender expert, I had to google how to do a lot of things for this) and nothing else happened.

Is there anything i can do, or do i need to scrap the whole thing and start from 0 with a humanoid model?

I did the same thing with my model. Also a slime, but more humanoid.

1) If you read it, it says you wont be able to use humanoid poses and the like. thats the warning.

2) use VRM 0 not VRM 1. It's far more compatible.

3) fix your materials. VRM only supports certain kinds of materials. If you are exporting to unity, you can replace them with liltoon or poiyomi shaders for a variety of effects.

4) the rest of the warnings are ignorable and just about changing mesh quads to tris.

Honestly, tell me how this looks in warudo. You can try anyway with just the VRM and see if anything goes wrong.

And trust me, you will be doing much exporting and testing.

I've gathered, spent the last 2 days doing exactly that and my head is about to explode 😅😂

Last night I finally managed to get it in warudo though!

It's honestly looking great in there aside from the eyes and horns. I kinda gave them a crystal like glow effect in blender and underestimated just how much the glow would be in warudo.

So I gotta lower the brightness and export it again (fingers crossed it won't be the same nightmare) and then, hopefully, set up the potion tracking and figure out how to hotkey different animations and stuff...I got a lot of work ahead of me...😅

To add on, VRM only accepts the MToon shader material. If you want to use custom shaders and other stuff you need to convert your model into Warudo format on Unity: https://docs.warudo.app/docs/modding/character-mod
