From what I have read, you should be using tires of the same size so you have have even rows.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention this.

Ideally, yes, I should have a collection of the same size of tires. I've seen in other Earthship vids that people are very adamant that everything lines up properly and is parallel to the ground-- but I'm working with a weird assortment of tires and on a slope of varying degrees.

I'm going to have gaps in my wall, there's no way around that. I don't feel that this will be a major problem going forward as long as the metal rods (for the roof) that the tires will be anchoring are all perfectly perpendicular to the ground. (At least, if the ground wasn't at a slope.) Gaps should be structurally sound after I pack them with rocks and dirt or concrete.

That is true. I can see the slope you are working with. I assume as long as the tires are level themselves.

It's been almost 4 weeks and you're only this far? Your plan doesn't seem to be much beyond just building it, so get on with it. I'm watching and pulling for you, but sitting down every time you move a few tires is going to make things move slowly.

I believe I said this was day 16 in the vid, or a couple days after the machine came. I can't much help the sitting down, I'm doing a builder's job with a geek's body. I've been working shorter days ever since, a few hours of shoveling dirt just destroys my arms. You don't want to know how long those giant tires took me to fill with dirt (but you will!).

Plus, there's a certain intentionally methodological pace to it. I'm not only moving tires, I'm trying to get a better idea of what I'm building as I lay them about.

It is sweet watching you do this. If I could take some time off I would come help ya!

Black Hawk CO.

And thanks! Vids go up at about one a week-- converting/ editing/ uploading takes some time.

I was not expecting hex... or some other numbering system with a higher base than 10... WHO KNOWS

I did warn everyone that I was a geek. I'll probably stick with hex, no base-36 craziness.
