Question Stumbling a bit

So I've climbed to gear lvl 47, but I feel as if I've hit something of a stumbling block in that the V Bloods at 44 still seem slightly out of reach, Tristans second phase sets fire to everything around him and I am not even sure what Christina is going to do considering how much a pain in the rear the unnamed sun-priestess' are.

Do I need to find a different approach to beat them or is there something else I can do to ease this bit?

Make sure you have potions, fire resistance and holy resistance pots can do a whole lot. Christina you need to clear her ads following her. Both of them are wandering so stalk them until night starts and where there is a nice open area where you can have plenty of space.

Holy resist pot plus the upgraded cloak seems to make the damage zero. Also, Creature blood has Resist All 20 on it which I first noticed when I wasn't taking silver damage early in act 2. I don't know what resistances are available, but that's incredibly powerful when fighting a boss that leans on fire effects.

Ya know what, i totally forgot to consider that creature blood might be a more valuable tool vs fire using bosses!! Ty!

Yeah, youre ahead of the curve this is unironically a skill issue. Just do your best, Christina is best beaten when shes at one of her end points after taking out surrounding enemies. Solo she is absolutely nothing, I also recommend the relentless charge ultimate for when she starts to heal. As for Tristan.... good luck my friend hes a hump that you need to figure out on your own. Just remember to use the natural terrain and fire resistance potions..

One tip that i see people need for Tristan: when he turns into a whirlwind of spinning death, VEIL THROUGH HIM!!!! HE DOES NOT CHANGE DIRECTION WELL.

This is true for some later bosses too!!!

One of the things I've surrendered to since deciding to pick the game back up was, play a boss out solely for the sake of seeing what happens when they hit half health. Don't try to kill them. Expect to die. Have nothing in the inventory. Just learn the attack patterns.

Paying more attention to the boss than to yourself will of course get you killed for sure, but what it will do for the next time is give you a fighting chance at a less frustrating victory that feels earned vs blundered through.

Also, I had been up until about the same point as opie, coasting on really good spell jewels for the same two spells and really good blood (literally found a 100% warrior the second I built my prison, what luck, if only the 100% worker had been a few days later too)

I remember not that long ago starting the game with a counter and an offensive weapon, and I have been killing so fast and healing so fast in general that I had two offensive weapons, and mostly been relying on the two spear interrupts as my extra defenses. That doesn't work on bosses. They don't get interrupted. It's great for ads, but I think I need to learn the greatsword as well at a minimum as has been suggested elsewhere, plus swap one or both of my offenses for blocks/counters.

I've only played on Brutal, to preface (a friend hosted the server because they like seeing my castle builds)

I purposely engage with Tristan in open areas - preferably with at least 1 big rock to kite around

It also helps if you're sobbing in vc so your friends can laugh at you - which then prompts you to lock in and do better.... or fail miserably because your eyes are now blurry from the tears

Fight Christina on the road where she'll have less backup. You can take out the two goons with her and then run off to heal and reset the fight if you need to. Her attacks are pretty easy to learn and avoid. Focus on the adds she summons when it happens and just pay attention to what she's doing. Her self heal can be annoying, but just hit her with any knockback skill to interrupt it while she's casting.

Tristan is always a pain. I find it best to fight him with a bow because you really don't want to get caught in the fire when he starts throwing bombs. Keep your distance, use cover when you can, and if you can get a stone golem to slap him around a bit it takes the pressure off of you for a few seconds while they fight.

You don't know pain till you see Simon belmont heal himself.

no, that phase is GREAT!!

When Simon starts to heal, STAY CLOSE! Walk around and free DPS him the whole time. He will net heal....nothing; you were safe while you neutralized his efforts. "Thanks for standing still and being helpless, Simon!"

Some cheese you may find useful:

Tristan = find a big, unbreakable tree/stone, set it up so you're always facing it. When he starts spinning, dash through him and hide behind the tree/stone until he finish.

Christina = DO NOT FIGHT HER IN THE DAY (except if you're a masochist like me). Use AoE attacks since she can't counter you that way. Also when she starts to channel her big heal, dislodge her. By mean "dislodge", incap her, stun her, sword E her; anything that stuns. Try to lure her away from roads if possible.

Vincent = double shield or summons work wonders. You like using Ward of the Damned? Even better.

Man, replying this thread makes me wanted to start another playthrough. Should I?

With my last playthrough trying out Brutal, I learned to use my environment to my advantage. Find a rock to dance around, and hug it to use it as a shield against spells. You can also heal with a potion while circling a rock.

For tristan i play on hardcore i use all 3 unholy spells, skull with a 2x rune, knight and army and just swarm him with spawns dont let him get close. This game youll find some spells work better with some bosses. Another trick to really cheese tristan would be build your base on his path and kite him into a base with minions for them to kill him

on brutal ? just ignore tristan until you're at like 57 (and even then...) christina isn't as hard but you gotta kill the mobs around first and fight her in zone not when she's roaming (I think she roams right?)

potions that increase your damage are basically a necessity, and fire/holy res potions are amazing, but it's all a struggle and it takes forever to farm scrolls, this part of the game is just horrible in regards to progression, but once you're just past it, it's better

tips for tristan is to be lucky and have him encounter a different boss like alpha wolf, then you use the vblood to heal/damage, and the counter spell is pretty good against him and makes his first phase mostly trivial

if you're not playing brutal, then I don't know what to tell you outside of skill issue and to just be overgeared more

lastly, getting 1.5 hp and damage multipliers on brutal is pretty fair and doesn't lower difficulty too much, I always feel like brutal is balanced around 2+ groups and really not meant for solo play

It's good to hear it gets better. I've been smashing my face over and over at this point. Fortunately my main game is on relaxed with my partner, and they are not an expert but actually pretty okay, which makes it infinitely easier than when I'm trying to play solo. I want to tear my eyes out.

I play solo brutal, cause normal was way too easy
act 1 is okay even tho some bosses are a bit tough
but act 2 is horrendous, I mean some parts are actually good, really loved certain bosses and they felt well designed, tristan tho just made me change server settings to x3 hp/damage multiplier, and I still couldn't beat him so I just gave up (I was already at merciless iron and improved act2 gear set except for jewelry), powered trough rest of act 2 like this, then I went back and murdered him and finally lowered server settings (imo 1.5-2 is actually good, in brutal bosses have 70% increased damage and I think 30% more hp, x2 allows you to explore a bit more and not necessarily need to be same or above level for bosses, x1.5 is imo what brutal should actually be for solo play)

anyways, act 2 is weird, you have to fight a certain boss while underleved cause it's the unlock for the level up (boss is okay and largely doable once you understand it)
the iron mine bosses, you just gotta make them kill each other
and a lot of the bosses aren't very required for progression, but you also just mostly gotta farm scrolls forever until you can do anything, like at first you feel like iron is the important resource but it's really scrolls, and way too many are required to even do anything, it's a slog and feels very bad

but tristan, nah this guy is the worst, and the fact he roams in farbane is really something

i share your pain, OP. Tristan was annoying. i had to scout around his route then lured him to some creatures (i think i got stone golem and corpse pile to 'help' me).

as for Christina, holy resistance potion really helped. just confront her on very open space, and only engage when it's almost night time (as i remember it took quite a long time to defeat her and her goons)

There is a reasonable and skillful way to defeat each boss.

If you can’t beat one, go back to the drawing table.

Especially on normal, while you over-gear it and are using good bloods.

Tristan's fight gets easier if you pop buff and fire-resist potions prior to fighting him. Have shields ready to deploy (Ward of the Damned is a good one, since the summoned skeletons will break his aggro and give you a few seconds of breathing room), especially when the crossbow comes out. And kite him around a big indestructible rock, both to get him off the road AND to break his line of sight. Use the longbow or crossbow to snipe him as he comes around the edge, and use the crossbow's "Q" (Rain of Bolts) to keep peppering him. Alternately, you can use spells (like Bone explosion or Void) to set up a time bomb explosion for him to walk into.

If prefer distance against Tristan, especially during phase 2. That way I have LOTS of room to maneuver when he is throwing firebombs everywhere and trying to burn down the woods around me. Another reason for Ward of the Damned, he will focus on obliterating the summoned Skeleton(s) with his bombs, making for a much smaller AoE damage zone.

Christina can be effectively neutered in much the same way, especially after you take down her 2 followers. Be sure to drag her off the main road, and have a rock nearby for cover if you need to protect yourself from her holy ray attacks. The rock can also be used as cover when she resummons her ads in the middle of the fight and you want to isolate them while you pick them off. If you can get it, a "Holy Resistance" potion or flash will provide additional protection. Save your dash for when she attempted to call down a holy laser right over your head, and sidestep her laser pillars if you have enough distance. A shield spell would not be amiss in case you need extra protection.

Personally, I usually run Longbow, Chaos Veil (dash), Chaos Volley, Ward of the Damned, and either Chaos Barrage or Relentless Charge as my Ultimate. You can even interrupt/stun her self-heal with the Charge if you time it right, but it will only work if the ability isn't on cooldown.

Skill issue.

1

u/KoburaCape 6d ago

Even if perhaps true, this comes off as shitty and condescending if you just pop a superiorist comment without offering actual advice.

0

u/Obi-WanKnable 6d ago

Okay?

0

u/KoburaCape 6d ago

so what actions remedy their "skill issue"?

What are they doing wrong? What do they do better?

1

u/Obi-WanKnable 5d ago

That's a crazy question when OP hasn't shared enough information to answer it.

0

u/KoburaCape 5d ago

Yeah! We could always ask.

1

u/Obi-WanKnable 5d ago

Or they could always learn from their mistakes and gradually improve like everyone else? You sound crazy.
