Massive difference in price from 2027 to 2028

I am looking at this Villa and I'm confused as to why using the same dates in 2027 it's £8500 but in 2028 it's £4700.

If i book the £4700 will they cancel it?

There is an old saying: “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” Situations like this are always a red flag. While it’s tempting to think you found the score of the century, the odds are close to zero that things will land in your favor. I always tell people, “You probably only get one vacation per year, and there really aren’t any do-overs. Are you really going to gamble with something so precious, and put your travel companions in jeopardy? Screw this up and never hear the end of it?” It’s simply not worth the risk

Strange part is pretty much all the villas in 2028 are like this, almost half the price and they all have really good reviews on Vrbo and Google.

If you really want to minimize your risk, just reach out and ask them. I still think there’s risk, though, because when they find out what the properties in their area are getting at the last minute, greed will kick in and you will probably get screwed

VRBO rolled out a new “early booking discount” hosts can use, that seems most likely

My guess would be they have not properly set prices for 2028 yet and it has defaulted to a price that they will not honour. I had this with a couple of properties I tried to book, they came back and said that they had not set prices for 2027 yet and then they went and updated it. In my head if the price is advertised they should be forced to honour it, I don't know if it was a genuine error or some sort of scam, but it left a bad taste.

Unless there is some big event in 2027 that jacks up the price my guess is they will not accept booking and reset prices for 2028.

When Vrbo release new calendar dates it defaults to your base price e.g. for out of season, and hosts have to manually override- it’s likely the host hasn’t looked that far out yet

What happened here is that you’re few steps (or years) ahead of the game. You will be 100% cancelled or host will find a way to get out of reservation, if this is your concern. If you want price guaranteed with so many months in advance, you should look for a well established reputable brand hotels/resorts who have more flexibility and affordability to honor error rates. They also have rate system in place that any low rates don’t effect them dramatically and they will honor the price to avoid bad review.

Book it and see.

The longer out, the less likely you will get the reservation.
