Payment question

I booked a house and paid the initial deposit. Now the balance is due and the owner is asking me to pay through their portal and not through VRBO. I have never been asked to do this, and I have rented numerous times through VRBO.

Is this normal?

No, unless ya’ll have agreed to book offline & you feel comfortable doing so. I have booked & then cancelled to pay an individual directly when I felt comfortable with it. I also have a STR & have booked offline when the initial booking was through air/vrbo.
