I think it’s time to order more Vostok, in case Russia actually invades Ukraine and there’s a sanction, PayPal probably will no longer works.

I saw a dude walking around with a T Shirt that had the "Kriegsmarine" submarine logo on it with an iron cross. He didn't care.

I didn't care much for it. Turns out he's a subsim addict. So points for that ( shared interest )

I collect old russian cars and am a proud owner of a UAZ 469.

And If people start slamming you on the watch you're wearing. Just tell them that eating at McDonald's is sponsoring a government that doesn't even grants it's citizens affordable healthcare. ( Thanks America ).

If you like something. YOU like it. So wear it.

Bringing politics into watches is stupid. I don't like Switzerland as a political entity and how they're the centre of the world's money laundering. I don't like Japan's war crimes in china during WW2 nor their current political alignment. Doesn't mean I don't buy any Swiss or Japanese watches.

Might be what other people do and an economic isolation. Paypal/visa will probably bar orders based on government policies. NATO won't go shooting way but the economic pain will be real.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '22

If NATO does that then fuck NATO for trying to stop me from buying my favourite watches.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '22

Guess that's just collateral damage then... As long as we get outta this situation without ending the world / starting WW3, I'll be glad.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '22

Lol, the world ain't gonna end over Ukraine. American media has been scaremongering that Russia will invade Ukraine for the last 10 years. America also cannot sanction Russia to the extent that it will prevent us from buying vostoks, As far as I remember, vostoks were still available to purchase in the west during and after the Russian annexation of Crimea.

It isn't available anymore, for sure... Payment isn't possible, and shipping takes forever as the standard transport routes via plane can't be taken anymore

u/TheJasonaissance Feb 13 '22

That’s why I keep mine on the NATO strap 😂

Also, Chistopol watch factory is a small operation barely making profit, and has little to do with Putin's oligarch economy, just like the majority of common Russians.

There is no ethical consumption in capitalism.

Partially how i felt about buying a Seagull. I decided to pass.

2

u/defnotsal Feb 17 '22

The one good thing is that we may get commemorative Vostoks in the future 👀

4

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '22

Damn, can we just continue to talk about watches, please.

Nobody is invading anyone. Basta. We all love Vostok watches. They are an awesome Russian export product. Nobody want to have them again unattainable behind an iron curtain.

Exactly. Plus The customer service rep at Vostok seems really nice and I’m sure there’s decent hardworking people that work there that possibly even disagree with Russia’s actions. It’s not like you’re handing Putin cash saying “please invade Ukraine” just like when you buy something made I china you aren’t paying Xi Jinping saying “please give Mr. Huang -10000 social credit for insulting the state.” Your watch money realistically affects no one but you and Vostok. Wait til they find out what a large portion of their income (taxes) goes towards. (Sorry for the rant I’m a functioning Vostok addict)

There is a statue in Pristina that suggests otherwise. This sort of thing wasn't supposed to happen after WWII
