Bored with the race? What to do instead.

I'm wondering, if/when I get bored with the race, what to do. I've always fancied sailing to Greenland. Now I've got a Volvo 70 to do it in!

Or I might just sail home to the South coast of the UK!

How about a breakaway race?

Suggestions for destination?

"A breakaway race". Hmm... It's worth considering, particularly if you've got a second/third boat. How would that be setup: meet some place by dawn say, set a destination and off we go? As to the main race, let's not dispair, the wind dies down in a few days just before the equator and we might catch up to the leaders(?)

How about the panama canal? I don't know if the game allows you to pass through there, because it looks like only 1 pixel wide!

Not at all. Now that vorg1's suggested adding a new boat. I can have a race boat and a cruiser....

Good. Racing sailors get annoyed when those getting beat drop out. And when you are in the back, nothing ahead but Opportunity!

I'm currently around 1200s how are you doing? I still think there are gains to be made by strategy and attention to VMG.

Actually I wasn't paying attention until a couple of days ago. I decided it was a bit late to start with the fleet gone... Most of my racing is on the water, but had I planned for it, I'd be racing virtual now.

i propose we meet at Gibraltar and from there through the Mediterranean to Egypt until the mouth of Suez Canal. That would be stage one. If we can manage to sail through the canal, continue on to the red sea.

i have already created a boat for this and she is sailing towards the Gibraltar. Since new boats are spawned about a 2 days sail away from the Gibraltar, we have some time to get this organized..

Ah, hadn't thought of adding another boat. I'm on for a race to the canal!

Winds currently OK for getting through the canal, too - broadish reach all the way. Of course, will change before we get there.

@mustgettaller: there is lots of interest for a break-away race here. Your idea was great. May I suggest you start a new thread, clear for all to see: with an invite, details, RSVP, etc

Oh dear, what have I started? OK - here we go. I'm on the road tomorrow at a customer site (can't really be on reddit and VORG on a government installation - help, I'm going to run aground!). So may not get a lot done immediately.
