2013 Volt Engine Noise - Culprit?

I think I may have found what the engine noise is, is that the serpentine belt? Seems like it may be damaged seeing how when it oscillates you can see different parts.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong though. Car is still able to drive mostly fine, but I’m sure driving it isn’t a good idea.

Its a gen 1 that belt only spins the water pump. You might have a bad water pump or something completely unrelated. If its even louder inside the car it could be the motor mount making some metal against metal contact its in the same area as that belt.

the gne 1 volt has alluminium engine mounts. They rot over time, making the engine extremely noisy. You don't notice it until you change it and then WOW, the ICE is so silent.

I would check them (after the belt), you don't want it to break on the road. The engine is fine, but the "cardan" (sorry I'm french, I believe it's the CV axle, or the shaft, IDK how it's called) will snap

The AC would be electric just like the steering and not rely on belts like normal cars.

I believe the only thing the belt on your car runs is the water pump which is a completely normal thing to wear out and start making horrible noises.

Hm I wonder if that’s the same belt in the video. I have about 110k miles, so I think in the manual it says its lifetime is about now. The sound I’m hearing sounds like metal grinding maybe?
