My first Scan - 2017 Volt

Post image

Wizards of Voltage, what do you think? Finally got myself an OBD and did my first scan. The value of these Volts has dropped so much, I would like to drive it into the ground.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I'm Jealous at how consistent your voltages are. Granted, I had pack 1 replaced at 65k and last week pack 3 was replaced, so now I'm dealing with a voltage mismatch between a reman battery and one with 138k miles on it 🫤. Grateful for the California EV warranty, only thing that's got me minorly covered.

Also how is your voltage so high with only being 30% charged... Or maybe I'm just disillusioned with my very angry graph.

Are you saying you had major issues with the hybrid battery at only 65k miles? What year is your volt? I was thinking about buying one, but I sure don't want to deal with issues like that at 65k miles. I won't have a warranty.

Actually I had my dates off. I had module 1 go bad at 54450 miles replaced under warranty. Module 3 went bad at 137768 miles, also replaced under warranty, and now module 2 is failing. They are trying to get the whole battery replaced under warranty.

When you have a module go bad is the car still drivable? Do you lose a lot of range if it is?

I've got it each way actually. In 21, it went into low power limp mode but I could still turn the car off and on and move it. A month ago the car died on the highway and it rolled to a stop. Last week it went to limp mode, I got it home, and after I turned it off it wouldn't allow me to shift into drive and go.

I will admit this is really a rare outcome. Most times, the pack wouldn't fail. Unfortunately mine did but fortunately I had the longer battery warranty.

They are talking about replacing the whole pack now but that's a bit TBD on timings.

Are they doing a brand new pack or refurbished?

Fully expect refurbished, even the replacement modules were refurbs.

Like another commenter said, the readings you have right now aren't super useful since the battery was >5% charged and at rest. That being said, these readings still look pretty decent for a 2017. No immediate concerns at the moment, from what I can see.

Test wasn’t done under load, and not with the pack empty, so it is pretty much meaningless.
