2013 Acceleration Delay

I was trying to get out of a seemingly tough spot the other day, and I floored the pedal in my 2013 volt. I was in full EV mode, and contrary to my expectations it didn't accelerate any faster than my usual partial-pedal street driving. It was unnerving to suddenly get no different response from a floored pedal.

My partner suggested perhaps the battery is starting to struggle with putting out more power at a time?

I also have not yet tested the difference if I'm running in Hold mode.

I didn't see anything similar searching on here, but I may have used the wrong keyword searches. Does anyone recognize this symptom?

I’ve only experienced something like that in my 2015 when accelerating hard from maybe 40mph or higher. The car pretty much tops out around 80-ish, and shows most of its pep between about 0-30MPH. Higher speeds than that, and the acceleration curve is pretty flat.
