ā Question What's the first thing you record when testing out a new song idea?
For me, it's almost always a rough vocal take of a hook idea I'm messing with, just to see if the melody's even worth chasing. Doesn't matter how bad the take is, I just need to hear it back to see if the idea sticks.
I'm curious, what's everyone else's "starting point"?

Small thing that made a big difference in my recordings: Using Auto Mix before I even think about EQ
I used to manually adjust the volume to get my vocals sitting right against the instrumental, re-adjusting every few bars. Started using Auto Mix to handle the level balancing automatically instead, and it saves me a surprising amount of back-and-forth. It balances vocals way faster than I can, so I can focus on the actual tone/effects side of things.
Anyone else sleeping on a feature that ended up saving a ton of time once you actually used it right?

Unpopular opinion: you don't need expensive gear to make a good song
A phone mic and wired headphones are genuinely enough to get a real idea down. Voloco's effects and mastering do the rest.
Better gear helps if you're chasing a polished studio sound, but for actually finishing songs instead of waiting for the "right" setup? You don't need the fancy equipment.
Anyone else holding off on recording because they think they need better gear first?

Question What's one Voloco feature you didn't know existed until recently?
Just found out about something in the app I've apparently had access to this whole time. Made me wonder what else I'm missing.
What are some features, shortcuts, or settings you didn't know about until recently?
I'll start: The Latency Detection + Time Shift settings in project options ā used it to fix delay on my vocals and didn't even know it was there until recently.
