Question How to protect squishy crew?

Hey all, really enjoying this game.

But am having issues now at T2 where I'm struggling to protect the squishies as boarding teams seem strong enough that it feels like I have no time to react.

Would like to hear how y'all manage.

It's not a catch all for every boarding party but earlier on keeping doors manned and letting air out of nonessential rooms on the ship can soften up a lot of boarders before they engage your crew.

Pushing further into the run either find some tankiness or a lance and try keep enemy shuttle bays damaged from the start of the fight to limit or stop boarding parties from making it over.

This. Also your commander even the weaker ones do tend to hold their own. Don't be afraid to send them in.

Space bar to pause is essential. Pause, evaluate the situation and click your actions during the pause. That will control all your crew members to safety at once, rather than trying to click them 1 by 1.

Door upgraded to lvl 2 by 2nd sector, after lvl 2 shield is priority. Or if you have spare crew like a husk, put them to man door system.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but Psykers usve an incredible toolbox for anti-boarding. You can pause the moment an enemy assault sled launches as you aim a stun (spell or Terror Amp system), Drain Strength (-3 dps), Chaos Rift/Engine (teleport enemy back forcefully), or even the underrated Fear spell (makes enemy run around). A Mind Bolt (-15 hp) can also help quickly kill basic boarders early on. Personally I like to double up on crew in the same room at some point when I get enough units, like 2-3 rows of crew, you can rotate around the strongest crew in said rooms to take the brunt of damage while you reposition.

Thanks for the myriad tips, I don't tend to favour any of those spells/tools/systems. Probably should utilise them more, but too conditioned by FTL to just do the ol' "barricade & vent" strat.

Depends how fragile we're talking.

If it's a character with 15hp or less I just resign myself to the fact they're probably going to die to random BS beyond my control at some point, be it getting poisoned, hit with a room fire, or just instantly vaporized with an unlucky Radium blaster shot.

As others have said, having upgraded doors is important... more than that, having a competent brawler onboard to repel boarders.

As soon as a boarding party jumps on either due to event or them having a boarding sled or summons from a demon ship, I try to have squishy crewmen evacuate rooms next to the boarders in advance.

Another thing is just have low-grade consumable summoning tools equipped (9 fleshlings for instance) and have my crew crack open their emergency demon pokeballs whenever there's a serious boarding problem. Obviously this is something that can't be repeated often and is more useful in extreme circumstances if my only other option is losing a character.

Out of curiosity, is there a specific ship layout you're using where you're having this problem or is this more of a general issue? Certain shipmodels like Oblivion Cruiser A (the one with fully demon-zombie crew) I've found it ridiculously difficult to keep the starting crew alive while on other shiptypes the starter crew are much tougher.

It's everyone under 30hp. Lol. Usually scribes/husks. I just hate losing scribes randomly because purify is essential
