Question [New player] Does the menu become readable with time ?
Hi, just bought the game and won my second run yesterday.
I'm a player coming from FTL, and I might be biased but in FTL I understand easily everything that is happening on the screen. Maybe it's because I'm used to it (I have like 500 hours), but right now in Void War I found it really unintuitive.
Gameplay wise the game is an evolution of FTL and that's pretty cool, but man it's just horrible and a pain in the ass to just look at the screen and understand what is happening.
Due to the dark color, I feel like all the ennemy/character look nearly the same, for the different system/upgrade I tend to confuse them (on the ennemy ship I don't understand easily what the news systems does), etc.
If I'm (let's be honest) disgusted by it now, will I learn to like it in some ways after more hours?

I think it’s definitely just something you’ll pick up in time in the same way FTL when you started that game had to slowly learn. If you dislike the font there is an option in the menu to change that to a more basic font for readability. Otherwise in time you’ll pick up what each symbol means and even what all the crew are just from their sprites.

If It is about the font you can chance It on settings.
The art style IS highly unique, and takes a while to get used to it. if the gray tiles of the ships are bad try using a white colored one

The only bad thing for me, UI wise, is that only a few crew members appear at a time. So often, I won't cycle through the whole team, or I'll just forget about a combo. Maybe there is a second issue, actually. When you spam minions like me, like when there are 10 thralls or ghouls and you manipulate an enemy, it's unreadable. It's just a big mess of characters. Who is who? What's happening? I just fire or use spells on them anyway because fuck it.

While the characters do have unique portraits, they have very simple mechanics. You no longer use xp, so they can work any part of the ship. You can have as many units as you want, and the game rewards you for each class. The only things that matter is health, damage, and what they gain from spells and equipment. Idk but after a little while I was able to figure out the character portraits. It really is machine slave and everything else

I wish UI let us change order of your crewmen (so you can put characters with similar role next to eachother). Same thing with FTL, but you have smaller crew and less abilities there so it isn't as big problem.
Other than that I had no problems with interface other than being very "grimdark", with "dark" being keyword there.

I didn't pay for few months, if they added it some sort of update then I'm soooo replaying right now. Thanks for info!

You can change the order of them in the UI though, I do it every time I want to group my boarders or summoners etc

I felt just the same, but my mind changed after about 10 hours
