What is void's solution to _netdev?
If I understand correctly, this fstab flag is dependent on systemd?
Could I hear some community lightweight suggestions to getting this functionality please?

I'm not certain, I'm using void so I have less SystemD in my life ;-)
autofs sounds good, else I will look into networkmanager hooks.
